A small slip of A5 paper slipped out from between a couple of folders that came out of the wardrobe with the paintings.
Go Eun turned her head. Behind her, Jungkook was still organizing his paintings in his wardrobe.
She bent down and picked the paper up, turning it over. The texture was rough — drawing paper, with a few splotches of decaying yellow. It must have gone through a lot already for the paper to have oxidized like this.
On the other side of the paper, there was a rough pencil sketch of a dog. The sketch, judging from the way it was done, seemed to be done in a rush. The dog seemed to be in a basket, its paw resting on the rim. Its eyes were looking right into the camera.
Go Eun figured it was a poodle or something. Though she'd always had a soft spot for animals, she wasn't an expert at recognizing different dog breeds.
"He's Jjangu," Jungkook spoke over her. Go Eun jumped on her crouched legs, ending up on all fours.
"Ya, you didn't need to scare me like that!" Go Eun pricked, annoyed. Then she remembered that Jungkook was, technically, still her sunbae, so she couldn't go around addressing everyone as ya.
"Sorry, I overreacted." Go Eun hoped Jungkook wouldn't catch her face growing red. That'd be embarrassing.
Go Eun cleared her throat. "Anyways, you were saying...?"
Jungkook nodded, looking at the sketch that Go Eun held in her hand. "That's Jin hyung's dog, Jjangu. He passed away a few years ago."
There was an air of mournfulness in the air after Jungkook finished. Go Eun hadn't envisioned there was such a backstory to this. She lowered her head, staring at the dog Jjangu in the sketch, and suddenly wanted to know more. "What breed was Jjangu?"
Jungkook's eyes fluttered, lowering his gaze. She knew she'd hit a sore spot, by accident.
"Mi— Mianhae (Sorry), it must have been hard for you and the members then." Go Eun didn't know how to continue. She'd never been good with consolations.
Letting out a deep breath, Jungkook shook his head, looking he'd just been momentarily jerked back to reality. "Ani (No), it's fine. What would you like to know?"

Ping.
Go Eun's phone screen lit up with a new message from her Kakao. She side eyed the notification, trying to decipher the words and focus on the story that Jungkook was telling at the same time. She wasn't a great multitasker, and in the end, failed to concentrate on either. "Please excuse me, I have a message."
She unlocked her phone and stared at the new message that had came through.
Go Eun-ah, how are you doing with your job search? It's been almost two weeks, your father wants to know.
Go Eun sighed at the sender's name. Of course it had to be either one of her parents. When had they ever left her alone? Even when she'd been gifted with the rare opportunity of travelling overseas for vacation, they had insisted Chul tag along with her. He wasn't all bad, but it had kind of killed the mood of travelling alone and exploring new food and places by herself.
"Is anything the matter?" Jungkook asked cautiously, looking at her curiously.
Go Eun placed her phone on Do Not Disturb and turned it off. "Ani, gwenchanayo (everything's okay)." She fake smiled.
What would Jungkook understand, even if she had told him? As a billionaire celebrity, he had none of these problems of hers. He didn't need to know about any of her life problems. They hadn't come for a therapy session.
