"What do you mean you don't have chicken nuggets?!" I practically yelled, staring at the lunch lady in disbelief.
She sighed, clearly over my dramatic outburst. "Sorry, but we're out of chicken nuggets."

"You're lying!" I accused, leaning forward on the counter like I was interrogating a suspect in a crime show. "I literally saw them five minutes ago."
She gave me a tired look, adjusting her hairnet. "We did have them, but some kids took the last batch."

I whipped around, scanning the cafeteria for the culprits. And there they were, a group of smug-looking kids a few tables away, their plates stacked with MY chicken nuggets. MY precious, golden bites of joy.

Before I could march over and demand restitution, someone in line behind me shouted, "Bro, move already!"
I turned to glare at the impatient voice. "Shut the fuck up! They're hiding the chicken nugg—"

Sophie cut me off, grabbing my arm to stop me from escalating the situation. "She'll take a chicken sandwich and a Coke," she said quickly to the lunch lady, who wasted no time slapping the items onto my tray.

Fuming, I allowed myself to be dragged away. As we walked past the nugget hoarders, I narrowed my eyes and muttered under my breath, "You'll pay for this."

Sophie rolled her eyes as we sat down at our usual table. "You sounded like a literal child back there," Andrew teased from across the table, smirking as he took a huge bite of his burger.

"It's not my fault they're lying about the nuggets," I argued, still bitter about the whole ordeal.
Ryan chuckled. "Everyone loves chicken nuggets, Lillie. Of course they ran out fast."

"Yeah, but still—"
"Don't worry," Tyler chimed in. "We'll get you some at McDonald's later."
Christine nodded in agreement. "Yeah, we'll make it a nugget celebration just for you."

That made me perk up, and I squealed like a little kid. "You guys are the best!"

"So, when is Emma coming today?" Ryan asked, taking a big bite of his burger.
"Around five, I think," I mumbled, my mouth still full of food.
Christine wrinkled her nose. "Ew, Lillie, swallow before you speak. Are you going to wait for her at the airport, or just hang out here until she shows up?"

I swallowed and rolled my eyes playfully. "Of course, I'm going to the airport. I haven't seen her since summer!"
Christine nodded as she picked at her salad. "Makes sense. You two are like inseparable twins when you're together."

Before I could respond, Sophie clapped her hands lightly to get everyone's attention. "Okay, guys, listen up!"
The table quieted, all eyes turning to her. Sophie always had this natural ability to command the room.

"As you know, Lillie won her first game, and so did Andrew and Luke. I think that calls for a celebration! How about we take a free weekend and spend it together?" she suggested, her voice bubbling with excitement.

I perked up at the idea and grinned. "That's actually a great plan. We could do it at my house. It's big enough for all of us, and besides, my dad bought it specifically for parties like this."

The group immediately voiced their agreement, nodding and murmuring in approval. Sophie started clapping in excitement, and I couldn't help but laugh at her enthusiasm.

"But," I added, holding up a finger to make my point clear, "Emma is coming, so that means you guys will finally get to meet her."

Andrew let out an audible scoff, and I turned my head sharply to glare at him. He shrugged, leaning back in his chair with an infuriatingly casual look on his face. "I don't like meeting new people," he muttered, crossing his arms.
