Theodore lied awake in his in his kind of messy room staring up at the wall. It had been about a week since Tiffany and him met in her garden. The boy really like spending time with her like that. He had always loved the time between 11 p.m to 4 a.m since most people are still asleep. It just takes off the pressure that builds up during the day. No one person that expected him to do anything. No one to tell him what he can and can't do. Just him, his feelings and his thoughts. He really cherished his time with Tiffany. Both of them had been friends since their early childhood but deep down he knew he didn't just lie her as a 'friend'. Not to say that he ever tried to have any form of relationship apart from their friendship. He wasn't even sure if he liked her like that.
And while he was lying on his bed, staring at the wall there was only one emotion on his mind
Fear
He didn't want to like Tiffany in any other way than his best friend. He liked the way things were. He liked the trust, comfort and happiness they both gave each other.
What will happen if I tell her?
How will she react?
Will she be distant?
Could we ever look at each other the same?
Why am I feeling like this in the first place?
No. He wouldn't tell her. He didn't even know what he'd say to her. What are you supposed to say in a situation like that?
Oh hey, you know me? Your best friend that knows about all your boy problems, that has seen you cry and at your worst state and that you've known for basically all your life? Yeah, turns out I might like you a little bit more than we both thought! Not sure though, so I'll just leave you with that information to deal with on your own! Bye!
He reached for his phone before he saw that it wasn't next to him. He stood up and looked around his room. It had dark green walls with wooden accents, many bookshelves, a big closet opposite of his bed with a mirror next to it that looked straight out of an old French kings room. Tiffany picked it out. Of course she did. She looked so excited when he told her that he was looking for some decor and not even a week later both of them were in Spain at a n auction for antiques. She looked so cute in her summer dress and with that big smile on her face. Wait what? Why was she in his head again? Fuck this shit. He turned his head away fron the mirror to look back around his room. On the right side of his room was a big window and leaning against the wall under it was one of his skateboards. It was one of his favourite things in his room. His gaze softened and his mind went back to even more memories of him and his best friend.
On a hot summer day when both of them were 8 and 9 years old. Theodore had just gotten his new Skateboard and he of course asked Tiffany to try it out with him. She was standing on his Board wile he was holding her hand and tried to help her balance herself.
"Hold me please!"
"I'm trying"
The laughter of both of the children filled the air and after many failed attempts ,and a scraped knee, Tiffany was able to ride the board. Oh to go back....
Theodore shook his head and he promptly was brought back to reality. It was night. He wasn't 9 years old anymore. He was 18 with a broken mind and responsibilities.
He looked to the ground and lifted a dumbell that had been left there for a few days and slung it at the mirror in front of him. It instantly broke into a million pieces. Regret washed over him the second his brain could register what he'd done. First of all did he hope that no one was woken up by this ear shattering sound and secondly did he just destroy his mirror. Tiffanys mirror. Immediately he fell onto his knees and rushed to pick up the broken pieces but with his trembling hands it was easier said than done. He gave up soon later when he cut himself with one of the shards. This was the moment he let all the stress that had been building up finally out, silent tears started to flow down his cheeks and his breathing fastened. He leaned against a wall with his head inbetween his knees until he fell asleep. The last thing he thought was:
What's wrong with me?
