Sebastian:
We went to go get Sawyer from school and I smiled when I saw him run out of the building and swing his blue backpack back and forth as he ran.
He got into the car and instantly started talking.
"Dad, Claude let me tell you about my day!" He excitedly said.
"What happened at school that has you in a good mood?" I asked.
"We have a new teacher and he is so easy to pick on. Today I threw a ball of paper at him and you should've heard him scream. It was hilarious!"
My smile went away and I scolded him.
"Sawyer Ezekiel Michaelis, you do not bully your teachers or anyone in general. Am I understood? You are grounded when we get home."
"But dad!" He whined.
"Your dad is right, Sawyer" Claude intervened; "Bullying isn't nice. Treat people how you want to be treated."
"But everyone else was picking on the new teacher!"
"Sawyer. That is enough" I snapped. "Claude is right, treat people how you want to be treated."
Claude:
I could tell that Sebastian was upset so I grabbed his hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze.
"Sometimes parenting comes with a time where you need to discipline your children such as taking away the TV or their cellphone" he said; "Children will make you feel like you're the villain but that's not true."
"Are you taking away the TV?!" Sawyer whined.
Sebastian let out a sigh and I couldn't help but to laugh.
"But with discipline I suppose you have to hear whining and tantrums?" I asked.
Sebastian let out a small laugh.
"Yes but you get used to it eventually."
I swear I need to start carrying around a notebook and start taking notes on how to parent. The baby will be born in nine months and I'm not prepared to be a father just yet.
