An Epic Dinner Date

The night was young, and Jason Grace had just realized that young nights were the best for romantic dates with certain someones. His only dilemma was that he had no one to enjoy it with. Piper had gone to California to visit her father, and even went as far as insisting he stay behind, saying something along the lines of, "I just think we need a little separation. I'm not really getting a... Sane vibe from you." In all actuality, her real statement had been quite a bit less polite than that, but Jason preferred his version better.

What Piper said didn't matter, the fact still remained that the night was young and Jason didn't want to waste it. So he did what any sensible demigod would do: He went out in search of Percy Jackson, King of Dates. Pulling on his sneakers and adjusting his glasses on his face, he slipped out of his cabin and into the warm evening air. Apparently the rest of the camp also noted what a beautiful time of day it was, for there were couples strewn about everywhere. The pair that amused Jason the most were some young teens sitting on the Hermes cabin pelting passerby with water balloons. He smiled and shook his head. Silly pranksters, he thought in amusement.

Jason was reminded of his original mission when he saw a familiar black haired head making its way to the lake. After checking that his shoes were tied correctly -he usually relied on Piper to tie his shoelaces- he sprinted across the grounds to catch up with his faithful friend. When he was within earshot of the older boy, he yelled out, "Hey, Percy!" As Percy turned to him, Jason felt his foot catch on something. He gasped and fell to the ground in a crash. I knew I didn't tie them right, he thought miserably. But when he looked down expecting to see loose shoelaces everywhere, he was pleasantly surprised. His heart sped up and his breath hitched. It wasn't his shoelaces that had tripped him; it was...

"Brick?"

"Hey, Jason, you alright?" Percy called out. One moment his friend had been running to him, the next he was sprawled on the ground staring at his feet. If he had to be honest, Percy was really worried about Jason. When they first met, Jason had seemed like he was stark raving. After the war, though, he kind of straightened out. The only real concerning thing was his jumpiness around bricks. But recently he had kind of relapsed. Piper even had to go to the other side of the country to get away from him. If Piper, the all-loving, understanding, patient daughter of Aphrodite couldn't handle someone, it was time to worry.

Percy began walking towards Jason, intending to help him, but he was waved away by the blond. "I'm fine really. I just gotta... Go. Bye," he said hurriedly. Then, after trying to be sneaky about picking something up, and only succeeding in drawing more attention to it, he got up and ran off in the direction he had come in. Percy shook his and mumbled under his breath, "Nutter."

Jason made it back to his cabin in under a minute, all the while looking around him nervously. He fumbled with the doorknob for a moment, then finally got it open and rushed in, slamming the door behind him. Taking a deep breath, he lifted Brick up to eye level. "Brick, what are you doing here? I thought we agreed it was too dangerous to meet so soon." Jason took a moment as Brick explained herself. He allowed himself a smile as she finished. "I missed you, too. But we have to be careful. I'm pretty sure Percy is on to us." Brick spoke once more, making Jason blush. "That sounds wonderful. I think I'll set it up. One dinner won't hurt anything, right?"

And so began Jason's quest to find items to make the perfect dinner. First, he snuck into the Big House kitchen, finding a can of tomato sauce and some noodles. Ah, he thought, perfect for dinner. Then he slunk his way around camp, looking for a table. After a few minutes of searching, he settled for an upside-down barrel the campers often used for apple-bobbing. Jason was still confused on where he should get the tablecloth when it came to him.

Literally.

A white sheet roughly the size of a small blanket whacked him in the face. He struggled for a moment, panicking over the fact that he had suddenly become blind. Finally, he was able to rip it off. When he saw what it was, he lit up with a smile. "Perfect!" he exclaimed, then took his load back to his cabin.

"Did Jason just steal our bed sheet?" Malcolm asked his sister. Annabeth shook her head, then went back to hanging up the rest of their drying laundry.

"Don't even try to understand that boy," she replied.

After shutting the door and setting up the table, Jason dealt with the problem of cooking the meal. With the secrets only known to the Grace family, Jason managed to cook the noodles and heat the sauce with a pan, some water, and two really hard rocks. He also may or may not have kidnapped Leo and forced him to do everything.

"What the heck are you doing with spaghetti and a barrel?" Leo asked as Jason shoved him out the door. Jason promptly ignored him and slammed the door in his face.

"Well, now that that's settled, we can eat," Jason announced. He set the plates on the table and put Brick in front of one. Then, sitting criss-cross-applesauce, he picked up his fork. "Bon appétit!"

The two sat eating their meal -well, Jason ate while he poked noodles through Brick's hole- until they felt content. "That was nice, Brick. I didn't know you liked pasta so much. I only just realized how wonderful it could be. Maybe we should do this more often," Jason said. Brick responded, making Jason blush. "Brick, don't say stuff like that, you're embarrassing me." But Jason was secretly pleased Brick found him hotter than asphalt on a Summer's day, as she put it. They stared at each other, eye to paint chip. Jason began slowly leaning in, mesmerized by Brick's beauty. Their faces were centimeters apart, just about to touch...

"Hey, Jason. I just got back from California. I've had time to think, and I really believe we can work things out-" Piper stopped walking in as she saw Jason pick up a brick and crush it to his lips. She blinked as she noticed the dinner layout. "Did I just get cheated on by a brick?"

"Looks like it," Percy said from over her shoulder. Piper could hear Percy's cry of pain as Annabeth stepped on his foot.

"I came for my bed sheet," Annabeth said in reply to Piper's questioning look.

Piper nodded. "Of course." Then she turned around and walked to her cabin, leaving Jason to continue his brick-on-boy makeout session.
