Hayah POV
I got downstairs to find Fatima talking to my mom and making chai simultaneously. Even my parents had a soft spot for her and considered her their second daughter, smiling, I walked into the kitchen.
"Aunty, I just need your dua'as, In'sha'Allah, by the end of this month I have my nikkah and all of you have to come. The minute we get cards, I'll send one over right to you", she said to my mom
"Haan beta, zaroor, we wouldn't miss it for the world", mama replied
"Aur kya chal raha hai meri janemans?", I butted into the conversation
"Lo ji, uth gayi shehzadi, did you know that Fatima tried waking you up for an entire hour", my mom scolded me
"Koi nahin mama, she's used to it now, throughout our 5 years of MBBS main classes kay liye issi nay tou mujhe jagaya hai", I said whilst giving Fatima a side hug
"Acha jaldi say kuch kha lou, woh aa rahay hain humain pick karnay", she said
"Oho woh lenay aa rahay hain", I said in a teasing tone
And as usual Fatima became beetroot red, it was quite easy to fluster her just by the mere mention of Ali bhai.
"Chalo yeh tou acha hou gaya, meri aaj tumharay husband say bhi mulakaat hou jaye gi", my mom said
The word husband seemed to trigger her further and she became even more red. Mama noticed that as well and we both ganged up teasing her about Ali bhai. They both were absolutely adorable. Ma'sha'Allah.
Half an hour later
We had just finished our tea when we heard the doorbell ring, Fatima instantly got up to go out, but mama playfully scolded her and instructed us to stay inside as it looks bad for the to-be bride to spring up and open the door. She made her sit down and went outside herself. A few seconds later we heard Salams being exchanged and after a minute or two, whilst Fatima frantically touched up her hair and makeup. We heard mama call us out, we were almost at the door when I heard my mom talking to someone in her high pitched excited voice.
Walking out of the main door, I looked ahead at my mom talking to no one other than Saleh Rehman.
"Ammi kaisi hain beta?", my mom asked him
"Jee Aunty woh bhi theek hain Alhamdulillah", he replied in that oh so perfect voice, God I needed to get a grip.
Saleh had now noticed me and I swear I saw him check me out for the slightest second. But maybe it's just my wishful thinking. I walked up to my mom and stood next to her and I was met with a slight slap to the back of my head,
"Bataya kyun nahin kay Saleh say tum mil chuki hou?", my mom asked semi-angrily
"Mama woh I forgot", I said sheepishly, even though I did not, this man was on my mind 24/7 ever since our last interaction
"Your ammi did say you were in Pakistan for a month for a friend's wedding, mujhe kya pata tha woh yehi shaadi hou gi", my mom said to him
"Jee aunty, bas, its a small world, what can I say", he said giving a small smile, with his dimples slightly showcasing
"Bas now that I know you're here in Lahore, you have to come over for dinner", my mom said
"Jee aunty", he said placing a hand over his heart and lowered his head in respect
"Tum logon kou dair hou rahi hai, I won't stop you guys further", my mom said ushering Fatima and I out of the gate
"Jee aunty, Allah Hafiz", both Ali bhai and Saleh said in unison
"Saleh I forgot to take your number, aik kaam karo, give it to Hayah, she'll send it to me", my mom yelled over the gate before walking into the house
Meanwhile, I stood there embarrassed over the what my mom just said, however this was nothing compared to the predicament and awkwardness we had to deal with now and that was, how to divide into the cars.
There were 2 cars, one driven by Ali bhai's driver, with him on the passenger seat, his two sisters in the backseat, so that car understandably only had space for one person and that was Fatima and she was already settled in. The other was Saleh's car and it was driven by Saleh, it only had Ali bhai's eight year old niece in it because she refused to sit all cramped up in Ali bhai's car.
An idea popped into my head and I turned back towards the gate,
"Kidhar jaa rahi hou?", I heard his voice
"I'm going to get my car keys", I replied, trying to remain non-chalant
"Why?", he asked in a monotone bored voice
"We have to go to the designer's", I replied mimicking his tone
"Tou main kya tumhe gadha gaari pay lay kar jaa raha houn?", he replied sarcastically whilst rolling his eyes
"Nahin woh main- uhm", I replied thinking about a excuse
"Apna aur mera time na zaya karo Hayah, gaari main baitho", he replied in an annoyed voice and walked towards the driver's side door.
Sighing and accepting my defeat, I walked towards the backseat and sat with Ali bhai's niece and said Salam, when I heard him audibly sigh, looking in my eyes through the rear view mirror, he said,
"Aagay aa kay baitho Hayah"
"No, I'm fine back here", I said
"I told you to come and sit in the passenger seat, so come on", he said whilst pinching his nose, I could tell he was trying to control his anger
"No", I said settling myself deeper into the backseat
"Hayah I won't repeat myself, aagay aa kay baitho", I could tell I was getting on his nerves now
"I'm not your mashooka Saleh sahab that I'll come and sit in the passenger seat with you", I said
(mashooka- beloved/sweetheart/lover)"And I am not your driver, Princess, ab agay aao otherwise main gaari nahin chalaon ga", he said in a finite tone
I looked at my phone, we were getting late to our appointment at the designer, sighing, I grabbed my bag and went and sat next to Saleh on the passenger seat and as soon as I did he started driving towards our destination, God, he was so annoying.
