Who is Eesha Amadin?
It was the heading to Maria's article. Eesha wondered herself, who was she? Still, she did not attempt to read and find out. She was tired. Life had lost meaning.
The Institute had lost it's marvel. Eesha noticed how cold the walls were and how thin the material of her wear was. The pink walls were faded and dirty from the years. It was always noisy. The food was bland. The environment smelt of spirit, cheap detergent and mango.
The nurses seemed even colder, they looked bored of their job enjoying to gossip than to actually work. Wardings moved about with hard expressions on their face. They used their sticks to make loud noises that startled the patients.
There was a particular guard Eesha despised, he was younger and he felt he owned the world for simply wearing a green uniform. He made attempts on the nurses and some patients, using their cluelessness to take advantage of them, touching them in inappropriate ways. His name was Akpos. He made attempts on Eesha, sadly for him, she wasn't mad and she could evade his moves, but until when?
Steven Uche's death was ruled as a suicide. He stole the syringe from Miss Angelique's trey when she wasn't paying attention and he injected himself an overdose of Morphine.
It amused Eesha that she was a suspect for investigation based on the fact that she was the first person at the scene of the crime. Even after clearing her name she caught the nurses whispers.
"It's that Eesha girl"
"Angelique is not a careless person"
"She used her juju on her"
On and on it went. This one disturbed Eesha because Steve was her friend. She had no reason to kill him but they believed she did not have to have a reason. Steve knew about who she was and she never got to ask him about it.
It frustrated Eesha that it felt like something was keeping her from finding the truth. She had energy in her that she needed to release but her movement was constricted. It felt like the walls were closing in on her. Eesha felt panicky. Had they won?
What happened to the confidence she had in the beginning? Where did it even come from? Where was it now? It scared Eesha to think that, that was how she was going to spend the rest of her life.
She tried talking to her form, to summon Lady Teeyah, Yuri, for some magic to happen that will make this new world endurable even in the least. Apart from calling her form she could not do anything else. Perhaps that's all she could do?
Eesha could not sleep at night. Jessica's loud taunt "Run lil one" combined with Steve's "Manifest now, Mischief tomao" rang in her hand. She screamed to shut it all out.
At first the nurses showed concern until they stopped caring. They let her scream, satisfied that they had broken her.
Then one night when the ringing came, she did not scream. She did not have it in her to scream anymore. It wasn't solving anything. She needed to get out. She wasn't meant to be caged. And she was done giving them the satisfaction of thinking they had gotten to her.
With that acknowledgement a plan began to form. Crazy but...
Juju is the African way of calling magic and things related to it. Eesha did not like that word, particularly from being associated with it. But she could not deny that what was happening was Juju.
Eesha found out that as far as she acted like she was asleep no one will bother her. So she rolled her blanket and made some dips to create a figure. It was far from believable but if it could serve its purpose of distracting the nurse, then it was perfect.
