Riley breathed a sigh of relief when she entered her home and was finally able to dump her suitcase down. The trip back to Australia had been exhausting, and she was looking forward to some good rest. She didn't bother to unpack or do anything else she normally did when she got home from a trip, choosing to put lofi music on and take a long nap on her bed. She was quite disoriented when she woke up again due to her phone (that was sitting on her nightstand) ringing loudly.
It was blaring the First to Eleven cover of Burn it to the ground by Nickelback, her chosen ringtone for her cousin.
"The hell do you want." She mumbled, still half asleep.
"Uh to check in with you and ah say I'll be at your place on Thursday." Broc responded.
That made Riley sit straight up with alarm, "BFeen, that's only one day to get my shit sorted and plan what we're going to do."
"I'm sure you'll figure it out. Look, i gotta go for a meeting, love you." The line went dead, causing Riley to sigh. Guess that meant she had some cleaning to do.
Riley got out of bed and straightened the covers back up. She hated having a messy bed.
Moving to the kitchen next, she flicked on the kettle, ready to make a coffee to keep her energized. While the kettle was boiling, she turned her speaker on to a normal volume and selected her cleaning playlist.
Haze, by 5 seconds of summer, began filling the silence, and Riley moved onto her next tasks.
Within the span of three hours, she had, vacuumed the whole house, chucked the washing on, and put most of her stuff away.
Now she had moved onto messaging Will so they could plan where they were taking Broc.
After her conversations with her boys, Riley went back to cleaning her house. She put the sheets back on the spare bed and packed away some of her gaming stuff that she didn't need out while Broc was over. Once that was done, she ordered some takeaway through the Uber Eats app (seeing as it was 7 pm already) and put an old Supercars race on the smart TV.
While waiting on her food to arrive, Riley decided to change out of her airport clothes she was still wearing. She found a pair of her sweatpants and pulled them on. She went to grab a hoodie out of the same drawer and found that the only one in there was Mack's.
Riley huffed angrily and threw the balled up hoodie across the room. She walked over to where Oscar's green hoodie was sitting on the top of her suitcase. She decided that was better than nothing and pulled it on.
After eating her food, Riley went back to sleep as she wasn't sure what time Broc was getting there and knowing her luck it was going to be early.
She woke up the same way that she had the day before to her phone ringing. Riley had clearly slept through her several alarms.
"Hey I'll be at your place in thirty, I'm just waiting on my uber." Broc's voice rang clear through the quiet bedroom.
"Oh fuck okay." Riley threw the covers off and swung up.
"You just woke up, didn't you?"
"I can not confirm or deny that." Riley mumbled moving to her closet.
"You better be awake when I get there."
Riley rolled her eyes and hung up from the phone call. She quickly changed into something more presentable than her Pj's and moved her way through her house, specifically to her kitchen where she could make herself a strong cup of hot coffee.
The next thirty minutes flew by and soon Riley found herself opening the front door for her cousin. Broc practically marched his way in dragging his suitcase in behind himself.
"Hi Riles." He said, dropping his suitcase near the lounge. "Are you doing okay?"
That was the last thing Riley expected to come out of his mouth and she suddenly found herself blinking back tears. She had tried pushing the feelings down (like she did with everything else) but now that her comfort person was here she couldn't help herself.
Broc immediately reached forward and wrapped her in a tight hug. "Hey, hey it's okay now."
"It's really not." Riley had the chance to mumble, before the tears came rushing down. She buried her head into her cousin's shoulder.
They stayed like that for a long while. Riley's soft crying filling the space of the seemingly empty house. Eventually the tears stopped enough for Riley to say what was on her mind, so they sat down on the couch.
"So over th- fuck." She stopped wiping her nose on her sleeve, "So over the past week I have met some awesome people but also had Mack yell at at me and cheat on me so I'm not doing great."
"He what."
"He cheated on me, I won't get into the details without Will but I found him kissing some chick in a nightclub."
The time seemed to tick by achingly slowly as Riley waited to see Broc's reaction. He rarely ever got angry but this might be a different situation. Just for her he swallowed his immense frustration deep down and instead said, "So you dumped him, right?"
I-I don't know." Riley's hands shook so she hid them in her lap.
"You don't know?" Broc raised an eyebrow.
"Well he wrote me a note before he left and it sounds like we're still together." Riley said defensively.
"Well do you want to still be with him?"
"I honestly don't know, we work so well together especially for his image but I don't know if i actually love him." Riley explained waving her arms around wildly.
"To me," Broc started, "It sounds like you need a break away from him to see what your true feelings are."
"Well, good thing your here for a week." Riley grinned at her cousin's and for the first time since the conversation felt a bit of contentment.
