▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃WHEN RILEY heard Tyler's question, she was completely taken aback. Her father was a stranger, a figure of myth and fear, a being whose name was only spoken in hushed whispers. Beyond the fact that he was a vampire—a terrifying one—she knew next to nothing about him, nor did she have any desire to. In her mind, Klaus Mikaelson was just a name. A monster who had never wanted anything to do with her.
"Why are you telling me all of this?" Riley asked, narrowing her eyes suspiciously. "I don't know anything about him."
Tyler leaned back slightly, crossing his arms as he watched her carefully. "I'm not looking for information," he clarified, his gaze unwavering. "I know more than enough about Klaus Mikaelson. I don't need you to fill in the blanks. What I want... is to tell you about who he really is."
Riley's frown deepened. She didn't understand his angle, his sudden interest in revealing secrets that she had never asked for. "Why?" she challenged, her voice cold. "Do you really think it's going to change my opinion of him? For all I know, he has no idea I exist—or if he does, he doesn't care. He's never been a part of my life, and I'm fine with that."
Tyler's lips curled into a grim smile. "What if I told you that he does know about you?" he said softly.
Riley's heart skipped a beat, and she froze. For the briefest of moments, her carefully guarded mask slipped, and a flash of surprise flickered in her eyes. But she quickly recovered, scoffing dismissively.
"Yeah, right," she muttered, shaking her head. "And what if I told you I don't want to meet him? I'm happy with my life as it is. I don't need to know anything about him."
Tyler remained silent, studying her reaction with an intensity that made her skin prickle. Then, after a long pause, he leaned forward, his expression thoughtful. "What if I told you... that you have a niece?"
Riley blinked, the words taking a moment to register. "A niece?" she repeated incredulously. "I don't even have a sister—"
"But you have a brother," Tyler interrupted, his voice steady. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a single photograph, sliding it slowly across the table toward her. "His name is Nathan."
Riley's gaze dropped to the photo, her pulse pounding in her ears. With a hesitant hand, she picked it up, her breath catching as she took in the image before her.
The photograph showed a group of people—a family. At the center stood a man who looked strikingly familiar, his dark hair tousled and his eyes warm as he smiled at the camera. There was a strength in his posture, a quiet confidence that radiated from him, but there was something gentle in his gaze, something that made Riley's heart ache with a strange, inexplicable sense of recognition.
