I dash around a corner as I glance behind me and see them gaining up on me, two very tall men in black tuxedos with dark capes. The one with the wavy blonde hair casts an evil grin, making the hair's on my arm's stand straight up. My lungs ache and my heart beats straight out of my chest as I slow my pace and turn a corner. Trash cans are placed throughout the alley way and are overflowing to the very brim of each container, trash piling up beside each one. I glance once again behind me to see the strange duet no longer following behind me, but that doesn't mean I stop running. I only stop when I see the front porch of my home, the plants overgrown and neglected and the sad, sagging steps of the front porch. I quicken my pace to a jog until I'm in front of my house, panting, out of breath and tired as I open the door to my house.
"Hello?" I call out as I close the door behind me, making my way through the foyer. I expect Matt to call out but don't get a response from anywhere or anyone as I make my way though the bright yellow kitchen and to the bathroom. The bathroom has a medium size bathtub that was perfect when I was a kid and a small yet comfortable stand up shower that my mom promptly decorated with stickers of the TV shows Matt and I were interested in as kids. Pushing the memory from my mind I take a look in the mirror.
"Holy mother of-" I cut off as I stare in shock at the person staring back at me. Dirt and blood cakes almost every square inch of my face and hair, which is looking more like a bird's nest than my normal auburn hair that protrudes from my scalp.
Crash! I flinch hard as the noise reaches me, whipping to stare down the hallway and to the front door. My eyes are wide and scared just like my heartbeat which is now officially out of control. Time seems to stop and nothing is registering in my brain, especially not the fact that the front door is wide open, something that I know I closed. I take a few wobbly steps back, putting my back to the shower. Strange, I think as a thought registers, I don't remember showers being this...squishy. I barely have time to widen my eyes even further when a hand clamps around my mouth and waist.________
My whole body jerks as it causes me to fall off my bed and onto my carpeted floor, speeding up my heart rate even more, which hasn't calmed down one bit and neither has my brain, being fully convinced I'm still getting kidnapped. I drag my hands across my face in an attempt to wipe the dream and imaginary dirt and blood from my memory but fail miserably. The scenes are still vivid in my mind as if they actually occurred, my body aches, whether from the intensity of the dream or something else, I can't say for sure.
"Flip it, I'm not letting a dream get the best of me." I announce as I pick myself up off the floor and to the connected bathroom. Passing by my stand up mirror I get a good look at my reflection, no blood, no dirt, no creepy men in childish capes pretending to be superman and doing a horrific job. I shake my head and enter my bathroom, taking a long needed break. I finish up in the bathroom and make my way downstairs, I pause at the landing right outside my bedroom when I see the front door wide open.
"Matt?" I call out, seeing if it was him who left the door open.
"What? You need somethin'?" He walks in the door with a stack of letters, likely checking to see if his concert tickets arrived in the mail.
"Nah," I reply nonchalantly as humanly possible as I will my heart to calm down. "Just checking to see who left the door open."
Matt shrugs and enters the kitchen, my mom stands by the oven making french toast and warming up mashed potatoes from last night. Matt see's this and decides to comment.
"Honestly Kath," He scrunches up his nose. "I don't understand how you can eat that crap, and for breakfast too."
"You're missing a vital part Matt," I head toward the cupboard. "Doritos."
Matt gags and falls over dramatically, clinging on to the chair as he utters that I can't possibly be human. Mom chuckles at his dramatic self as she focuses on the task at hand, food.
"Oh and mom?" Matt starts as he shovels food into his mouth. "You got a letter from this guy named Vrish Moneygreen or something stupid like that, like, who names their kid after a currency? Stupid..." Matt trails off as my mom slows her movements, freezing completely as she hovers her hand just above the stove knob.
"Mom?" I ask, concerned as Matt continues to blabber on, apparently oblivious to the fact mom is clearing going into some sort of shock, I reach over and place a hand on her shoulder to try and help her in any way even though i'm terribly confused.
"Dammit! I'm supposed to meet Dan and Karl at the skatepark! Frick!" Matt exclaims randomly as he somehow quickens the pace he shovels food into his mouth. Mom seems to snap out of her trance enough to say a quick goodbye to Matt and state that she needs to go lay down, giving me a small wave before disappearing up the stairs while I stand staring at the abandoned food extremely confused.
