He didn't want to go with Seraphina.

It felt like they'd been in that tent forever. Omdrus and Seraphina. And they were discussing Aria and Eddie's freedom.

He knew that one way or another, Aria was going to be free. Even if she had to fight for it.

But Eddie knew that his freedom came at a higher price. Aria wasn't a traitor, as he was. Aria never betrayed the otherworlders and Omdrus. He was fair game.

He sat on the ground. Just sitting in complete silence, staring at the grass. He knew that he'd be leaving with Seraphina. And he'd be dead before dark.

"Lighten up, Edward," Aria spoke. "The wolf won't let a thing happen to you. For sure he won't let that foul evil snake of a woman take you."

"He simply can't." Octavia added. "It would be mad."

Alex hadn't said anything yet. He was in thought, deeply within his own mind. "She knows that she can slow the prophecy." he paused. "She knows that if she kills Eddie, we'll have to wait for another, and it could be centuries." he paused again, but this pause held an air of darkness. "And she knows that as long as she has Aria, the prophecy can never come true... which is why we can't let that happen."

Octavia looked to Alex. "You make it sound like you have a plan."

"In formation," the black haired boy spoke. "The way I see it, she can't claim something from us that we don't have."

"You expect me to take the boy and run?" Aria questioned. "Have you learned nothing?"

"Not you." Alex stated. He looked to Octavia. "Her."

"She's your sister," the white-haired girl argued. "And you are sending her out into the wild with nothing but a boy to keep her safe. I can't allow it."

"If she and Eddie go out there alone, she will expect them to die. She wouldn't even bother sending out troops because they're children." the black-haired boy told her. "If we go with them, she'll send all the numbers in the world to find us because we can help them survive. But if they go alone, she will believe that they'd die."

"Oh, please don't send us out there alone, Alex," Octavia pleaded, her eyes watering. "I couldn't bear it. Neither could Eddie. Where would we go? And how would we find our way back?"

"This is only if Omdrus and the witch can't come to a solution, or rather an agreement," he assured his sister.

"If they don't come to a conclusion, my sister's head will make an agreement with her body to be separated," Aria snapped. "I didn't come all this way, I didn't survive her for all these years just to let her win." she looked to Eddie. "Worry not Edward, if Omdrus can't save you, I will."

It is then that Seraphina's figure emerges from the tent with the wolf behind her. She stares around the camp, her gaze stopping at the prophesized ones.

"I declare now, that I no longer claim the boy, Edward's blood." Seraphina announced. She made direct eye contact with Aria. "And I will see you, sister, on the field of battle." They all watched as Seraphina made her way back to her chariot. But she stopped and turned around. "And I can count on your word, Omdrus? Be at the place it all began before the sun can make its rise, if you are not there by the time, the land destroys itself. So, I ask again, can I count on your word, wolf?"

The wolf barked and snapped at her. She fell back into the chariot with a startled expression. It is then that she and her platoon left. And the entire camp erupted with excitement for the lives saved on this day before a battle had even begun.

But Eddie saw the look on the great wolf's face. As did Octavia.

And they both suspected that he made a grave sacrifice for them.

For Ashiver.
