Charlie hated the dancing part. From the very first day she was quite satisfied with her job, but after she found out she had to get in front of the visitors and dance time by time, she started to get disappointed. The stupid rules didn't let her change her work place until she has been employed for six months. Now when she met a McDonalds or Burger King employee, she always gave them her best jealous look.
She was sitting in the staff room filing her nails. She broke some of them yesterday when she went rock climbing with Scott, Elle's cousin. What she liked about Scott as that he wasn't like other boys she knew. With him she was comfortable. She didn't have to care her face and legs are covered with mud when they decided to get into mud fight; she was fine with not trying to look pretty or feminine in front of him, she could smoke how much she wanted to, talk with her mouth full, swear and just be herself. Not like she usually stood frozen when she was around guys; they were her company, she was just like one of the boys. However, she somehow could feel they treated her differently. She hasn't noticed anything like that with Scott and she loved it.
- Charlie, get out of here! We have a freaking lot of customers!
Charlie sighed and got up. She looked at herself before leaving to fix her ponytail and bow tie. She loathed herself in this uniform, but she couldn't do much about it.
Indeed, they restaurant was starting to get flooded with people despite it only being nine o'clock in the morning. She put a friendly smile on her face and walked towards the table where a young family with children was sitting.
- Hello! What would you like to order?
The children, lovely little boys with fringes, turned out to be twins. Charlie spend an extra few minutes to chat with them. She liked children a lot, her little brother has always been her favorite playmate. After putting down that Mark wanted a chocolate milkshake, and Timothy - a strawberry one, Charlie headed towards the kitchen.
She has already put the burgers and fries on the tray and was making milkshakes when the restaurant door opened with a bang and a tall blonde man got in. He was wearing a leather jacket in spite of the hot weather and sunglasses. He looked weirdly familiar and Charlie started secretly inspecting him while cooking. She got so distracted that she accidently put chocolate ice cream instead of strawberry in Timothy's milkshake and had to start from the scratch.
Charlie brought the food to the customers and then headed towards the blonde guy she saw from the kitchen.
- Good morning, what would you like to eat?
- Charlotte, is this you?
He lifted his sunglasses so they were functioning like a headband and looked at her fixedly. Charlie recognized Duff, one of the musician guys she met with Elle.
- Oh, hi...
- Do you work here?
- As you can see...Look, I am terribly sorry, but I think I've forgotten your name...
- I was born Michael but I've been called Duff for as long as I can remember.
- Okay, hello Duff. What do you want?
- Do you have vodka or anything?
- We don't serve alcohol, - Charlie bit her lip and blinked a few times, - but I guess we can make an exception for you...
A few minutes after that she was back with a tall glass of beer. Duff greedily looked at it and thanked her.
- That's my little medicine, my head feels like it's going to fucking explode...Come on, take a sit.
