"Okay, so I feel that poems and songs are a part of literature, so your assignment is to write a song or poem. You have three options, 1 you can sing it 2 someone else can sing it for you or 3 you can simply say it," I pause, "I know it's the first day back from break but I'm giving you a week. And this will be a participantion grade, so get to work."

I sit down in my desk and I watch a couple of the students as the words flow from their hand. Brendon's hand shoots up and I nod at him, "Sir I'm ready."

"Are you sure?" He nods violently, "Okay are you going to-"

"Sing it!" He stops me.
The words flow out of him beautifully.
This is gospel for the fallen ones
Locked away in permanent slumber
Assembling their philosophies
From pieces of broken memories
Oh, this is the beat of my heart, this is the beat of my heart
Oh, this is the beat of my heart, this is the beat of my heart
The gnashing teeth and criminal tongues conspire against the odds
But they haven't seen the best of us yet
If you love me let me go
If you love me let me go
'Cause these words are knives that often leave scars
The fear of falling apart
And truth be told, I never was yours
The fear, the fear of falling apart

Ryan is soon to shoot his hand up as well.
The words flow out of him beautifully too. He's also an amazing singer.

Whether near or far
I am always yours
Any change in time
We are young again

Lay us down
We're in love
Lay us down
We're in love

In these coming years
Many things will change
But the way I feel
Will remain the same

Lay us down
We're in love
Lay us down
We're in love
I watch as Brendon's eyes light up at the words coming from his mouth. I think I just witnessed him fall in love.

The kid that surprises me is a ginger that sits in the back, I always seem to forget his name, Patrick I think.
He sings amazingly and everyone claps.
I'm gonna make you bend and break
Say a prayer, but let the good times roll
In case God doesn't show

And I want these words to make things right
But it's the wrongs that make the words come to life
Who does he think he is?
If that's the worst you got, better put your fingers back to the keys

One night and one more time
Thanks for the memories even though they weren't so great
He tastes like you, only sweeter
One night, yeah, and one more time
Thanks for the memories, thanks for the memories
See, he tastes like you, only sweeter, oh

I'm so excited when the bell rings, I can't wait to hear Kellin sing, I mean I'm not sure if he's a good singer or not, but I want to find out. Of course Brendon stays behind, "Sir, I have a problem," he says quickly.

"What's wrong Brendon?" He sighs and begins.

"I think Ryan was singing to me and I fell in love with his voice and- and - and HIM!" He says.

"I felt that too," I say but he takes my meaning wrong.

"You thought he was singing to you and you fell in love with him." He says looking a little scared.

"No, Brendon. I think he was singing to you and I saw you fall in love," I say correcting him and making him smile.

"But I'm still with Spencer although I think he's cheating on me." He says looking at his shoes. "I'll just talk to him, hey thanks for always talking to me Mr. Fuentes."
