The first thing Normani saw that Tuesday morning was the chocolate cupcake sitting in her locker. "Another one?" she laughed. Having no time to eat it (due to her oversleeping), she grabbed the treat and brought it to class with her.
Normani reached her seat just as the bell rang. She lifted the cupcake to her mouth, intent on eating it before her teacher said otherwise. But, right as the chocolate frosting was inches from her lips, a letter written in red icing caught her eye.
Instead of the "P" she had received yesterday, today's cupcake had an "A." Normani furrowed her eyebrows in thought. Was her secret admirer trying to send her a message?
"Why do you keep staring at it? Aren't you going to eat it?" Normani jumped at the familiar voice, nearly dropping her cupcake on her pants.
"Lauren!" she exclaimed, turning to face the green-eyed girl. "I... I don't remember you sitting here."
"That's because I usually don't. I requested to be moved," Lauren stated.
"Why?"
She shrugged. "The people around me were annoying. So, are you gonna eat that-"
"Ms. Hamilton," the teacher's strict voice called from the front of the classroom, "what have I said about eating in class?"
Lauren stifled her laughter as Normani sighed and got out of her seat. "Well, to answer your question, Lauren, apparently not."
Why is the universe so against letting me eat a cupcake?
Normani spent the rest of class stealing glances at the girl who now sat next to her. Surprisingly, she could've sworn that she felt Lauren stealing glances at her every now and then.
Normani decided that although the universe had taken away her cupcake, the universe had done her a favor by putting Lauren in the seat next to her.
Note- Sorry that this chapter is short. I promise the excitement will start picking up soon!
