I don't believe in magic

Calista's unnerving yet beautiful turquoise eyes studied Raine a moment before a small smile played at her lips. "Lucky for you, I don't believe in magic."

"What? You do realize that's not how this works, right?" Raine asked, furrowing her brow in confusion.

"I'm an immortal. It works how I tell it to work," Calista shot back.

"Okay, maybe before, but you're not immortal anymore."

Calista held her chest, pretending to be wounded. "Words hurt, kid."

"Stop calling me that."

Calista quirked an eyebrow. "Does it bug you?"

"Yes, very much so." Despite Raine trying to act angry, a small smile worked its way involuntarily onto her pale face.

The ex-immortal smiled at that. "Yeah I'm not going to stop calling you that."

"Oi, stop flirting and get back to the point," Vesper called to the two.

Raine faltered, stepping back as red flushed her cheeks. "I- We're not- flirting..." she stumbled.

Calista smirked slightly. "Nah, I was."

Raine rolled her eyes. "You flirt with everyone."

"Not true. Only the women."

"Whatever."

Calista sighed. "Point is, I don't believe in magic which means it doesn't affect me."

"How do you not believe in magic? You were a Goddess."

"Well yeah, but I don't believe in curses."

"It's best not to question her," Vesper said, playing with a random stick they found as they sat against a tree trunk.

Raine rubbed her temples. This curse had been more confusing than she thought.

"Well, I'm going to go do some... Ex-goddess things..." Calista said.

Lame excuse. She usually had better ones.

"See ya," the blond called as she started waking away.

"Bye," Raine replied.

She turned to see Vesper smiling slightly at her.

"What?" Raine asked with furrowed eyebrows.

"You do realize she just confessed her feelings to you, right?"

"What? How did you get that from what we were talking about?" Raine felt her cheeks heat up a bit.

"Raine. Even I got it. Your curse? That no one can love you? She literally told you it didn't apply to her... See where I'm going with this...?"

Raine's cheeks heated up a lot more. "Wait- What?"

Vesper laughed quietly. "Go talk to her."

"This is Calista. She does not like people. Much less love them. You're wrong."

"No, you're wrong. Didn't she tell you?"

"Tell me what?"

"She may seem all tough and apathetic, but she literally forfeited her immortality for her last girlfriend."

"What?" Raine was very confused now.

"Yep. Someone killed her, so she killed the murderer—and a few extras—and I guess that deemed her unfit to be the Goddess in charge of the justice system."

"Oh... She didn't tell me that..."

Vesper nodded. It seemed like not a big deal to them, but to Raine...

Did Calista actually like her?

"What's the worst that could happen?" Vesper asked Raine, snapping her out of her thoughts.

"She could deny it and I could look like an idiot. Or she could kill me. Or laugh in my face. We could stop being friends," Raine listed plainly.

Vesper rolled their eyes. "And the best that could happen?" they prompted.

Raine hesitated. She glanced back at the tall figure getting smaller and smaller as she walked away. "Screw it," she muttered, jogging to catch up.

Vesper watched from where they were sitting as Calista and Raine talked, a small smile on their face.

A/N:

Prompt: OC 1 is cursed to be unlovable, but OC 2 doesn't believe in magic.

*Not my prompt, feel free to use.*

Didn't expect it to turn out how it did in the end, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Maybe I'll write their full tale one day.

Tell me what you think in the comments!
