The Wolf Boy and Rabbit Girl

Chapter 1: New Friends

The Humanimals are a primitive people, they keep to themselves and are rarely seen to the human eye. They like to stay hidden, after all the humans have been destroying their forests and habitats for years and now there are only small groups. The most common are the rabbits and wolves, they're enemies but they have a common hate, the humans. They work together to defeat them but other than that they don't, and won't, talk to each other.
Some times there will be marriages outside the tribe, like a rabbit may marry a bird, or a wolf might marry a pig, but never a wolf and a rabbit. After the humans tore down the forests though these tribes had to move closer together and marry outside their race.
There are some people who have been married into the Humanimals but they were hippies and those who married them were outcast. Although most might say blasphemy some of the children are starting to support it. Just like gays marrying in the human world, Humanimals and humans were discriminated against, and so were enemies, like the wolves and rabbits.
One day a rabbit girl was wandering through her village and saw a shadow on the edge of town. She was very curious and ran after it, the shadow didn't move from its spot and the girl was able to see it was a young wolf boy. She wanted to run but was too scared to, the boy came closer and she tried to yell but couldn't. He put out a hand and she covered her head. It was coming soon he was going to eat her, going to kill her. After a while she didn't feel anything and decided to look at him. He look sad and a little worried and he put his hand down.
"S-sorry I scared you" he said rubbing his arm and turning away.
"What? I thought you were going to eat me! That's what my mommy always told me about wolves" she said feeling stupid to think like that.
"That's why I came here my daddy says I have to be a big wolf and hunt for rabbits. To be honest I don't like meat very much" he said as the rabbit girl came closer to him. "My name is Kai" he said sticking out his hand again.
"Hello Kai, I'm Jamie, I'll be turning 4 soon" she said shaking his hand.
"I'll be 5 soon" he said gloating "but we can still be friends right?" He ask looking pleadingly into Jamie's eyes. "I never had a friend and this was the nearest village so I thought maybe I could find a friend here"
"OF COARSE WE CAN BE FRIENDS!" Jamie screeched hugging Kai as hard as her small figure could muster. "We will be the best of friends, I don't really have any friends either so we will just have to see each other every day"
"That sounds good we just need to tell our parents that we're going to the forest to see a friend" he said happily walking away "I'll see you tomorrow Jamie" said Kai running away to his village.
Jamie has never felt so happy in her entire life, she finally had a friend. She could never tell her mother about this wolf boy though. Ever since her father was killed by the wolves.
