The first day at Rockwell High School
"Yes mum I'll be fine" I stressed down the phone stood outside the dark and tall metal school gates, watching other kids who roughly looked around the same age as myself.
Passing through the entrance filled with excitement and nervous or all of the above mixed altogether.
Well it was our first day of high school and we were officially saying goodbye to middle school as eleven year olds and now we were entering school as twelve year olds.
It's crazy how the time goes by.
"I'm just making sure you're ok, Lukey bear" Mum blew imagery kisses through the phone. "And I just want you to have an amazing first day of officially starting High School"
A group of obnoxious boys loudly cackled in unison wandering pass me like Regina George and her squad of friends collective known as "The Plastics"
"I know mum" I lowered my voice softly murmuring through my teeth, looking around every corner in hopes that I wouldn't encounter those rowdy good for nothing boys again.
"But like I said before I'll be fine"
The raising nerves started to build up within me as I rubbed my temple in an attempt to hide it. "Look mum I'll call you as soon I catch the bus home at the end of the day"
"Ok love" Mum clarified going into her motherly mode again. "Be home on time later because I'm cooking your favourite meal in the world"
Tilting my head to the side I tapped my finger against my chin curving a wide grin on my face. "Spaghetti and meatballs with smooth tomato bolognaise Dolmio sauce"
"Correct sweetie!" Mum chuckled. "I won't keep you long love. Nick sends his love and he wants you to have a good day at school"
I ran my hand through my light combo over brown hair. "Give him my love when you get the chance" Three girls walked passed me enrolled in a conversation of their own.
One of them gave me a gentle smile before she and her friends headed straight in the direction of Rockwell's main building.
"I'll see you later mum" A small grin tusked on my lips as my eyes were fully fixed on finding that girl.
Mum made kissing sounds through the phone as she usually would Everytime she said goodbye to me or my older brother Nick over the phone.
"I love you too darling have a wonderful day today, bye honey!"
I put my phone on silent then safely placed it inside of my inner blazer pocket.
A new found conference took over me as I took a breath deep and stepped onto the school grounds.
For.
The.
Ever.
First.
Time.
I took it all in as the realisation of actually going to high school finally hit me.
"It's not so bad after all I guess" I marvelled in delight and nodded my head making my way to the main entrance.
Where I came face to face with the girl who smiled at me outside the gates.
Once.
Again.
