Oh god.

It was as if my feet moved independently, controlled by some other notion I had. It was like we were back in elementary school- how I knew something was up with Stan before he spoke.

"Stan!" I called out, completely disregarding the sound of Craig telling me he was leaving with or without me.

Stan turned to face me- and god, he looked...

He looked like shit.

His hair was ruffled, and he had been wearing the same shirt for a few days. His eyes had huge dark circles underneath them, his skin was paler than usual and he looked skinnier. I could practically smell the stench of beer and cigarettes from Craig's car.

"Stan, are you.. would.." I stumbled, my eyes catching on his slender frame and his messy hair. I cleared my throat. "Wanna hang out? I need a little company, and I mean, it's the weekend." I spoke quickly- quicker than usual, my nerves getting the better of me.

His expression was, rightfully, one of confusion, his dark eyebrows furrowed.

"Kyle.." Stan paused, biting his lip- a nervous habit. "Yeah, whatever." His voice was a grumble, but I could hear a hint of hope in his tone.

"Okay- let's... we can.." I hesitated, running a hand through my hair. "Care to watch a movie?" I asked, holding my breath. "We could run to the gas station, get some snacks.. like we always did?"

Stan's expression softened, and he let out a soft sigh before nodding- giving me a sort of half-smile that made my heart melt.

"Of course." He said, relaxing just a bit- letting his guard down

"We're.. we're good, right?" Stan asked as we got into his car.

"Yeah.." I sighed, giving him a reassuring look, "We're good."
