For years, N/n had been constantly pestered by their grandmother about school, pestering them about the achievements of their siblings, and pestering them to do the same. And N/n had just about enough of it. However, they could do nothing about it but just wait till their grandmother to finally have enough.

It was the weekly dinner at the Everly residence and Agnes Everly had already begun her usual comparison of grandchildren.

"I heard Mason had just been accepted into the London academy of the arts and performing in the London theatre this month. That boy's talent is getting him places." she commented while the rest of the family silently nodded, eyes set on the food before them.

It was never a pleasure to hear Agnes talk on and on about status and achievements, even Margaret, Agnes' daughter in law couldn't muster up a shallow laugh or high pitched agreement to appease her.

Agnes glanced at N/n as if to relay a message to them, it was neither subtle nor in good faith. She had always pestered them to provide equal or even better news but Mason, despite being younger than N/n, had always been the prodigy that even N/n's older brothers, Edwin and Avery-- both accomplished in their fields, was incomparable to Mason.

N/n only rolled their eyes, patience wearing thing as the desire to just get up and leave the table was growing more and more by the minute.

"How about you, N/n?" Agnes finally addressed, "What have you been doing this summer?"

N/n had been out of the house the entire month, forcing themselves to party at Burton house just to avoid the Everly residence. They didn't even like the Burtons but anywhere was better than where Agnes Everly was.

"I was at the Burton's, grandmother, Allister was quite adamant to get me to help him with this new art piece of his," N/n replied.

Agnes didn't look pleased, not pleased at all. She had been trying her best to understand the young teen but every effort was deemed useless. N/n was simply unmotivated and lacked talent unlike their brothers and it was time for her to fully intervene before N/n would taint the Everly name.

"Well, since you don't seem to be occupied with anything important recently, I suppose it is time for me to deliver the news," Agnes started.

This caught N/n's mother's attention, "Agnes, don't you think it's too early?" she worried but Agnes was set on delivering the news head on. Without looking at Margaret, she set down her utensils and fully faced N/n.

"I have enrolled you to Hendon House and you are set to leave tomorrow," she announced.

N/n's brothers frowned at the news. Hendon house wasn't a revered school in the Everly family and Agnes had even expressed her distain towards it countless of times and for her to send N/n there is the final testament of her feelings towards them.

But the (brunette/blonde/ etc.) held little expression on their face. It wasn't a big surprise, Agnes had always hated them and sending them to Hendon House, a mediocre boarding school was more of a relief for N/n than anything. At least now, Agnes had stooped low enough to express her complete hatred towards them and gave them free reign to do the same.

"Why thank you, grandmother, I have been wishing to leave this hell hole anyway. Now if you excuse me, I have some packing to do," N/n then got up and left, plate unfinished but a heart filled with rejoice.

They were leaving the Everly mansion, what a privilege it was.

...

It was raining in the early morning, the morning that N/n was set to leave for Hendon house and their mother was standing in the foyer to bid them goodbye.
