Laughter left the artificial lips of the EULR unit upon hearing your story
You were sitting on a chair outside an office as you waited for your turn. Fortunately, a rather cheerful Replika decided to stop by and have a nice chat with you, one that you had come to know as "Juli"
It wasn't long before the door opened to reveal the blonde officer, now ready for you. When she laid eyes upon you, she raised a curious brow at what she saw
You greeted her with a gentle nod before turning back to the EULR unit
You: That is my cue. See you later, Juli
EULR: Have a great day, detective!
She waved and smiled as she watched you enter the office and close the door. You could hear the faint chuckling coming from the woman as you took your seat
Her office was a place you had become quite familiar with. The bookshelves on the back, the Hicks' Hexagon pattern on the carpet floor, and even the small potted plants that brought some much-needed life to this place
You: What?
Joan, not bothering to hide her amusement, looked at you with a taunting smirk from the other side of the busy desk
Joan: You are a peculiar man, Y/N
You tilted your head at this
You: How so?
Joan: I don't think I've ever seen anyone treat a Replika the way you do. Like a friend and not just a machine
You: To be fair, if it weren't for the unusual heights, I'd forget they are not human
This time you got a laugh out of her. A rare sound in a place like this
It helped that your conversations with her were not recorded, but then again, this was not an official visit per se
Joan: Is that all it takes to fool you, detective?
You leaned back into your seat with crossed arms and narrowed your gaze
You: I've seen them do things that would be impossible for a simple machine. They dance, socialize like a person, and even display emotions like you and me. Anger, sadness, joy...
Joan: I see your point. AEON did a magnificent job with these units
The officer admitted with a more serious expression on her face. Then, something beeped on the monitor by her side, so she started working on it
You: But they are not simply robots, are they? Simple programming could not achieve such a thing
She stopped typing to give you a brief look. Her eyes were illuminated by the screen
Joan: That is classified information only suitable for Gestalt offic--
The woman looked away from the monitor for only a second, and that was enough to find your unamused gaze staring back at her
She knew those eyes. It was not a good enough answer, and you being a detective, would get to the bottom of it either way. The Eusan Nation was not the best when it came to hiding secrets
A sigh left her lips at this realization. You might as well get it from a reliable source
Joan: If you share this information with anyone I'll have your head on a plate
This got a nod from you
You: You have my word
She stared at you for a moment. Joan never knew why, but she could never say "no" to you. Well, she did know, but would not admit it just yet
