It's only fair.
There were once three sisters named Iduna, Ingrid, and Imogen. Naturally, Ingrid was the oldest heir to the kingdom of Arendelle. Each sister was equally clever and beautiful. Ingrid's skin was pale as ice with cold gray eyes. She was strong-headed with the courage of a lion.
Imogen was the middle daughter, having choppy snow-blond hair and glittering brown eyes. She was kind, compassionate, and gentle as the wind. However, Iduna, the youngest child, was plain, having no distinct features. Although, she was clever and cunning, and most of all—
Manipulative.
Iduna had a known secret—she had sacred snow and ice powers. A blessing one may say—or a deathly curse. The folks of Arendelle considered her as an evil enchantress who would bring doom and misery to the kingdom.
When they were still young children, they'd play with glass roses. It was a risky game, one wrong move, then the glass would break.
One day, Ingrid scratched Iduna's palm with the stem of her glass rose. Iduna's hands dripped with blood.Naturally, Ingrid tried to apologize while Imogen attempted to clean off the blood. Iduna didn't say anything, but silently let her anger bubble under her skin.
So Iduna shattered all of the glass roses. Each of the girls' hands bled, the glass slick with blood.
It was only fair.

They eventually grew into fine women, but Ingrid and Iduna got into a heated argument about who should be the heir to the throne. Iduna crossed her pale arms across her chest. "It's not fair, Ingrid. I'm clever enough for the whole kingdom."
"Arendelle needs a strong leader," she retorted, lifting her chin. "I'm the eldest after all."
"You're selfish, that's what you are."
"After Papa dies, I'm the queen, you know this, Iduna." Ingrid laced her fingers in her lap. They were sitting inside the Royal Dining Hall. "Don't be finicky with me, it's a poor choice. It's only fair."

They didn't speak to each other for months. Their sisterly relationship was as thin as ice and as fragile as glass. Imogen, the only kind-hearted sister out of all three of them, was concerned.
She went to their father who was on the verge of death. "Hello, Papa."
"My lovely daughter," he croaked in a raspy voice. "How are you?"
"Ingrid and Iduna are arguing again," she sniffled, dropping to Papa's bedside. She always hated how Papa just lay on his deathbed every day, waiting for his life to be taken. Didn't he know how much Imogen needed him? "It's been months since they spoke."
"Your sisters are petty," he grunted. "Everything will be okay, child."
"But what if it doesn't improve?" she cried out, tears stinging her eyes. She was always the emotional one, something she hated about herself. She wasn't as brave or clever as her sister. She licked her pale lips. "What if it worsens by the time that Ingrid is crowned Queen of Arendelle?"
Papa gave away a rough cough, stroking his thin beard. "I suppose it'll be an ongoing issue. Don't fret, Imogen. Perhaps if you force them together, you'll end up with happy results."
"Are you sure?"
"Child, I must confess—I'm sure that today is the day I shall die," Papa said as Imogen gasped. No, she wasn't ready yet. Why must everyone leave her? "I need to die knowing that their relationship will strengthen."
