"Hello."
"May I speak to Ms. Alysson McCarthy? "
"Umm..Yes..Its her."
"I'm from The Rolling Stones to schedule an interview. For the internship. Is tomorrow evening suitable for you? Or any weekday within this week?"
"Tomorrow is just fine. Thank You so much for considering me!"
"We'll be expecting you at 5 then.", he smiled.
-----
"Grandma! I have an interview for the internship at The Rolling Stones! Tomorrow! You just HAVE TO help me select what I'm going to wear. And Oh My God! What if I say something stupid? What if I do something stupid?! I'm so nervous. This is my first interview! Grandma, you have experience. And you can charm anyone. Tell me what do I do and say? And HOW do you know the right thing to say always?"
I was practically freaking out.
I watched Grandma openly laughing at me. She smiled and told me to sit with her.
"You don't need to worry about what to say and what to do. Just be who you are. Don't act fake, or be all gigglish types. Don't pretend. And I think you should wear your new black jeans and the white tank top."
"Hey, you know I love you right?", I said pausing on my way to the door.
"I love you too, princess." She said.
What she didn't know was I wasn't a princess. Atleast I never felt like one. Not since May.
-----
The next day I was so nervous that Grandma let me skip school. I really wanted to get that internship. It was important to me. I loved music and working at The Rolling Stones was my dream job. If I even got to work there as an intern it was enough, for now.
At 3:00 pm, I could not stay still. I tried putting on loud music to soothe my nerves. Even that did'nt help me out so I decided to call up one of my half-brothers even though it was the middle of the night where he was. I knew he wouldn't mind. He understood me and protected me.
Talking to him for about half an hour kind of made me a little less nervous. He could always make me laugh and boost my self confidence.
At quarter to five, I stood outside the building which could be my future work place. I composed myself and walked inside the head office. Introducing myself to the receptionist, I informed her that I was there for the internship. She smiled and asked me to have a seat while she informed someone called Mac.
A few minutes later she motioned for me to come with her. She led me into an very plush office fully designed in shades of black and white. Very sleek and classy. She told me to just wait, Mac would be back in a moment, and she left me there.
I walked over to the window. I felt someone looking at me. I turned around to find a very attractive man looking at me. He must have been around twenty-five or so. He smiled and introduced himself as Mac, and told me that he was the one who had called.
The interview wasn't as formal as I expected it to be. He asked me to sit, ordered us both coffees and asked me about myself. What I did, if I was working anywhere, which subjects I like, my hobbies and things like that. Finally he asked me the question that I expected him to ask.
"Why do you want to work at the Rolling Stones? I mean, there are many other magazines, like Teen Vogue, Seventeen. "
I had been hoping he would not ask that, but it was kind of obvious that he would. I didn't know what I would say. I had thought of many answers but I couldn't remember any of them at the moment.
"Umm..I love music and it has a very calming effect on me. And I love writing..about anything..stories, in a diary or anything like that. And I have always admired the writing style of the interviewers of the Rolling Stones. So, when I saw the announcement I decided to apply. I didn't expect to be called. I mean, you all must have about hundreds of people applying so..."
"Yes, we do have a lot of people here. Thank You for coming. The secretary will be in touch with you soon. "
"Thank you for the interview. And ummmm, the main reason i applied was because working at the Rolling Stones has been my dream job for the past four years. Thank you." I said while leaving.
The pretty, blonde secretary smiled at me and asked me how it went with Mac and whether he was too hard on me. I didn't know what to answer, so I just told her I had no idea how it went because the questions didn't seem to be relevant at all. She smiled at me as I left the building and went home.
