It was a late shift. Sanitizing the residue from the table. You taking the late times to steward your working place. It was a pastry shop, a dopey place. In a complex of places, it's a diminutive business of just the right clients.

Only regulars came, sparse people and most quaint to see. You worked here for a small income and the discreet motives...... of cute guests. But mostly for the pay.

"Ugh., could this shift go any slower?" Your coworker, Embry crooned. Her munching on a strawberry tart.

"We're almost done... you just can't wait to go binge spy family can you?" You chirped a small laugh at her offended poise.

"Okay, but like have you seen Loid—?!" She cooed. Staggering in a cascade of bright blush. "That man I swear."

"Yeah yeah, simp for another time,  wipe the tables with me." You snuffled.

"You're no fun (Y/N)." She drew a rag, probing a nearby table with a subtle pout

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Embry had doused her apron to a nearby shelf. Garments were put away to wash as she was done. Grabbing her dog-printed car keys to leave.

"Deserting me already? You're no fun—" You mocked, a playful smile at her esteemed gasp.

"Are you gonna miss me, or are you scared to lock up yourself?—" She inquired, "Shucks, I feel loved."

Go ahead, Embry. I have everything covered. See ya next time." Your impish smile, your behold giving the word to her.

"Love you ." She bid bon voyage, a primp smile as she meandered to her car in the dark.

Your life was almost perfect. ludicrous for the future. The only issue was very tangled. Unfathomable to hear for most. But it was how you felt

Being single.

Many people rapture over this, you know. Oh boo hoo. But seeing all the couple content online. A pivot in your life came to be to burden.

Something you missed. The fundamental romance is the gist of your entire for you page on everything.

To sum it up, you felt hopeless in the department As your self-esteem was at the same level as the depth of the freaking sea, and your type was awfully specific.

maybe just nobody fits your criteria.

Or maybe it was the other way around.

Snaking out of your degrading thoughts. You peered at the time that radically passed. You let all your thoughts subside.

It's closing time.

Finishing your duty, a tribute to today felt fulfilled as you let your apron drape on the timber wall of shelves.

Scuttled to the door. Your hood is a mantle, the dark fabric as a camouflage. Breathing in the frisk air of the night.

Water gushing from the clouds, as a downpour dampened your clothing. You shuttering from the cold rain.

Walking, your head down. Not associating with any people, just assuming they're all kidnappers to avoid just for safety. What is safety?

You forgot where you parked. Wonderful. Spectacular. Amazing.

You surveilled all the black cars. Cursing tragedy to everyone here who owned a car similar to you.

How dare they also own a black car?

As you shuffled, you slipped over a gutter. Penetrating the concrete rough. "Ouch..."
A raspy grunt. Having to lope the way from now on, before you spot a trinket in the profuse rainwater.

It fluently followed the water, as you noticed the leisure gleam of a diamond. A robust cost. A ring!

You seized the small item before it fell into the sewers. Your vision was dazed but it did not effed the pure luxury of the item.

The luxe abundance of gold. It had two small clusters of diamonds, a ruby gem that sat in the middle coated with gold. It was downright gorgeous.

The revere of the craft as you gaped at the small thing. Someone must've lost this.

In the direction the ring came, you spotted a girl running and.. crying. The loud weeps melodic of the walls of the buildings around. you instinctively hafting her to ask what caused her such despair.

Was something or someone chasing her?

"Hey— is everything alright ma'am?!" You ceased her running, a small smile to decrease her sobbing.

Her breaths uncontrolled, you easing her as your hands stroked her head. In an embrace of safety. It seemed to have made work before she lowered her eyes to your palm. A reticent dark face. Such a fear-ridden expression as she dragged her eyes to yours from the ring that lay within your grasp.

"Throw that thing away. Get rid of it while you can.. and stay as far as this earth can reach away from me" She instructed. Her hands are around your wrists.

"Before they find you."

"Wait!! Before who what?." you bellowed.

And there she went. Running down the sidewalk.

She discerned more about the ring than her dampened clothing. What was she running from? You gandered your eyes at the ring. Mixed emotions dwindling the expensive jewelry in your hand.

What did she mean.? You ruminating in your mind and contemplating following what she said. If you should toss it.

But. Selling this for an extravagant amount of money. How could you resist when in need of cash? That sounded enticing. More beneficial to you.

It's still technically getting rid of it. She didn't specify how.. right?

You conjured it before smiling a tad and diluting to selling it. Greed is only so resisting.

keep it, then sell it

Easy peasy

You had no pockets. Inconclusive on where to put it before instinctively slipping it on your finger.

Your ring Finger

Temporally it will reside there before you abide by the girl's frantic wishes, and yours. Insatiable happiness as you returned to your car.

now that it's on your finger.

It's never coming off.

(Y/N), what a fatal mistake you made once again.
