He didn't understand; I didn't want anyone to die, I begged him, but he still killed them. That's why I left; I couldn't handle it. When I watched him climb the fence into their backyard, it was like something switched. The love I had felt for him was gone. I felt the need to escape, as if the feeling of being trapped in the room was gone.
I knew that Jay wouldn't stop and just let the family a small part of me wanted to believe he would. That small feeling was quickly crushed by the sounds of screams coming from the neighbor's home. That was it. He had done. The poor family innocent lives taken all for a forbidden love.
"I need to leave" I spout out to myself. I felt a feeling of rush come over me, I needed to leave and now. I didn't want to see Jay's face ever again. The feeling of loving a murderer made me sick. I rush over to the window, just hoping that I would be able to escape. I grab the bottom of the window and pull up. Now that the window was open, it was time to see if I could escape through it, I reached my hand out to test if I was able to exit the room. To my surprise, my hand went through.
I stepped one foot out the window, then another, and before I knew it, I was standing on the second story of the roof. As I was getting ready to jump off, I prepared for landing, but instead, I glided down similar to that of a paper airplane. I wasn't expecting such a soft landing, but I was thankful for it. Now, all I have to figure out is where to escape, too; one of my options was the woods behind our suburbia home. The woods were just behind the fence, so all I had to do was get over the fence and into the woods.
I opened the gate to the backyard, which was always kept unlocked, and walked through the yard to the back fence; this one didn't have a gate due to the woods being seen as dangerous. I used one of the plant boxes in the backyard to hop over the fence. Running into the woods, I didn't even think about what could happen. All I could think about was getting away from that home and Jay. I ran deeper into the woods until I lost sight of the house.
That was it. I finally escaped what had been trapping me in that home and the forbidden relationship I was trapped within. I finally stopped and looked around at the nature that surrounded me. It was quit but not silent. You could hear owls who and crickets chirp, a relaxing sound that brought me... joy. I sat down in the dirt, looking up at the night sky sprinkled with stars. I rested my eyes as I felt a burden get lifted off me. It felt as if my spirit was being taken to the other side.
I opened my eyes to see what looked like... I paused for a second confused. It couldn't be. "But that was years ago" I whispered to myself as I stare at the front doors to my schools cafeteria, opening the door to see why in the world I was here.
Slowly opening the door to see the signs of what would have been my prom before I died; disco lights, dj stand, and my lover. The one I had left all those years ago when I died. But how was he here? Had he died while I was still stuck on earth, stuck to finish a task I hadn't know about until now? Or was he a figment of my imagination?
I watch as he turns to see me his eyes lighting up as he sees me. It must truly be him. But why? Is this my heaven? Had he remembered me all those years up to his death? He ran up to me, a shine i hadn't seen in so many years in his eyes. I sank into his touch as I felt his arms wrap around me into a deep hug, one that had been needed for centuries.
During my time alive I had always been told our heavens are meant to suit us and our greatest desires, meant to fit what we loved most, and the memories we loved most. It wasn't until now that I realized those rumors were true, and I was witnessing them right infront of me.
