Ethan's POV

As the empty classroom started to fill up my teacher started her lesson on the fall of Rome "finally!something I'm actually interested in".i say to myself as I listen in to what the teacher is saying I hear a slightly high pitched voice chime I look over and it charlotte!the girl I bumped into a couple nights ago she began to talk about of what her view of the decline and fall of the Roman empire was which sounded like she had studied right off of Wikipedia which made me angry because why take such an interesting class if you won't put in any of the work anyone should know that.I chime in telling her that even though her point of view was valid it was also a childish and immature way of viewing what really happened during that time.Charlotte and I found ourselves on opposite ends of the classroom, our voices rising as the debate on the fall of Rome escalated into a heated argument. Fingers jabbing at history books, we volleyed points back and forth, each stubbornly clinging to our own interpretations.

"You're completely missing the economic factors, Charlotte!" I exclaimed, my frustration mounting as she dismissed my arguments with a wave of her hand.

"Maybe you should actually read about the cultural decay that eroded the empire, Ethan!" she shot back, her tone sharp and unwavering.

The teacher(my mom), Mrs. Elrod, intervened, her voice cutting through the tension like a blade. "That's enough, both of you! This is a classroom, not a battlefield. Principal's office, now!"

Stomping down the corridor, my cheeks flushed with anger, I couldn't help but shoot Charlotte a withering glare. She returned it with equal intensity, her eyes ablaze with the remnants of our argument. The principal's stern lecture seemed to fade into the background as we stewed in silence, the tension palpable between us.

After what felt like an eternity of reprimands and warnings, the principal finally released us back into the crisp autumn afternoon. The door clicked shut behind us, leaving us standing in the hallway, our seething animosity still lingering in the air.

"You just had to push it, didn't you?"I muttered, my voice laced with a mix of irritation and exasperation.

"Me? You're the one who couldn't accept a differing opinion!" she retorted, her arms crossed defiantly over her chest.

I huffed, walking the other even though the principal had sent us back to our history class. As we walk back to the class I can see my mom standing outside of the door with a stern look on her face the exact look as if I had dropped one of her favorite heirloom vases. "What were you two thinking!yelling back and forth about something so simple it genuinely wasn't that serious but you two caused a scene and was reprimanded for it by the principal he called my work at Princeton futile if I wasn't able to control the class! Now what do you have to say to yourself" she says. "You should've done your research" I say,Scowling back at charlotte as she begins to speak my mom stops her and assigns us both a joint project for tomorrow im guessing she wants us to create some type of bond.. definitely no happening well at least for charlotte we both get sent back to our rooms. as if this day couldn't
have gotten more worse I tripped on the way into my room falling over a pile of clothes my roommate left on the ground I stand up already ticked off thinking of all the upsetting thoughts of what happened today i turn off my lamp and call it a night.

Charlottes POV

Slumping onto the edge of my bed, My hands clenched into tight fists, My knuckles turning white as I recounted the infuriating events of the day to My friend Julia. "Can you believe it, Julia?" I seethed. "Ethan just had to go and get us both sent to the principal's office, all because he couldn't handle losing a debate."

Julia listened intently, her expression a mix of concern and curiosity, as my voice trembled with barely contained frustration. "We were discussing the fall of Rome in history class, and he just had to contradict everything I said. I tried to stay calm, but he kept pushing, and before I knew it, our voices had escalated into a full-blown argument. The teacher had to intervene, and now we're stuck with a joint project tomorrow."

My breaths came in short, exasperated bursts as i recalled the embarrassment of being reprimanded in front of the entire class and in front of the principal I wonder if he talked to my parents since today was the day they do their weekly check up on me."I can't believe I have to work with him. He's so infuriating, Julia. He never backs down, and he always has to prove that he's right, even when he's not." Her hands gestured in the air, emphasizing my frustration as I  struggled to convey the depth of her exasperation.

Julia nodded sympathetically, her eyes reflecting a mixture of understanding and concern for her friend's predicament. "I know, Charlotte. But maybe this project will be a chance for you two to find some common ground. You both have strong opinions, and maybe if you can find a way to work together, you might even learn something from each other and it also might be an opportunity to talk to someone as hot as him weren't you looking for guys to date on campus."She chuckled

My scowl softened slightly, my gaze shifting to the floor as I  considered Julia's words. "Maybe you're right,he isn't that bad looking and he's pretty smart" i mumbled. "But it's just so frustrating. I feel like he would never take my ideas or me seriously, today it felt like he thinks I'm just some sort of nuisance. And now we have to spend even more time together trying to make this project work but that doesn't matter anyways because he still embarrassed me in front of class, the principal, and his mother! I hate him."

Julia reached out and placed a comforting hand on Charlotte's shoulder. "You're a force to be reckoned with, Charlotte. Don't let him undermine your knowledge or your passion. Show him what you're made of, and maybe, just maybe, he'll come to appreciate your perspective too."

Charlotte managed a faint smile, a glimmer of determination shining through her frustration. "Thanks, Julia. I'll try. But right now, all I can think about is how to make it through this project without strangling him." They both shared a laugh, the tension in the room momentarily dissipating, leaving behind a glimmer of hope that perhaps, in the midst of discord, a semblance of understanding could still be found.
