Chapter 5: "It Would Be Rude Not To. (The First Response)"
~✶~
My Dearest Secret Admirer,
Thank you so much for thinking to write to me on this fine Spring day. I enjoyed reading your letter, and I appreciate the things you have said. I feel very privileged that you would seek out to kill me above anyone else. At first, I was not even considering writing a reply to your generous note, but after reviewing, I decided it would be very rude of me not to, right? I would never want to be rude to you, my admirer.
Now, let's get down to business. I'm not playing your game. Death threats are serious, and especially to the prince of The Barrier. I hope you know what you're doing. When we find out who you are, you will be arrested and taken to court. You could be executed; at least, you'll serve several years in prison. Reconsider your choice. If you are some kid, this isn't a joke. You know who I am, right? What I am able to do? I have the Death Glare. I can kill you in an instant. Of course, I wouldn't necessarily want to, but I will if it comes down to it. I, personally, don't like threatening people with my power, but I'm only protecting myself. I will fight in defense if you do attack. I'm not sure who you are, so I'm not sure what you're holding against me, but I know I've tried my best to please everyone.
I don't want to hurt you if you are someone I know. Honestly, I don't want to hurt anyone. Could we talk this through? Whatever I did to you, I'll try my best to fix it. I'm not sure who you are, as I said, but it would be a lot simpler if I did. Why don't you just confront me in person? It would be easier that way.
Speaking of easier, wouldn't it be better to kidnap me and hold me captive for ransom? You would accomplish more that way than killing me. Of course, either way you'll go to prison. You can never take back the note you wrote. Regret for the past doesn't change the consequences of the future.
You must have something really terrible to hold against me if you only want to end my life and receive nothing. You would rather me die than you become rich? Whatever happened, it must've been a big deal, but nothing comes to mind. You'd think I'd remember something like that. I guess you were too irrelevant to me. No offense.
It was interesting to me, how you called me a coward when you're the one hiding behind a paper and ink. (Oh, did I mention that your handwriting is a little on the messy side? Maybe work on that a little, alright? It would be easier for me.) You call me a coward though I'm the one chasing you. You refuse to see me in person and actually confront me, and you dare to tell me history will never remember my name? Honestly, how is history supposed to remember you when I don't even remember you?
Sorry. I feel like I've been a little rude in this letter. Funny, isn't it? I began with 'I would never want to be rude to you, my admirer', but now here I am. I think I'm only a bit scared for the future and what it holds. It's a little nerve racking, having a threat sent to you from someone you don't have the identity of. I'm not sure if this is real. I'm not sure if you'll ever see this. I'm not sure I should even be investigating this. Anyway, I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I won't play your game. I'm sorry for whatever I did to you. I'm sorry if you're some kid reading this. And, lastly, I'm also sorry that you'll spend the rest of your pathetic life in prison.
Really, I wrote all of this to offer you my one request: If it does come to us fighting to the death, please don't hurt my friends. I know I'm the only person you're angry at, but if and when we do fight, they will jump in front of a bullet to save me. You can hurt me, torture me— kill me for all I care— just don't touch them. They did nothing to you, and I have told myself I wouldn't let anything happen to them. I would rather die than someone even come close to hurting my team. You may be evil and really mad at me for some reason, but I will tear the world apart if you even come close to injuring them.
I would return your threats by saying, 'You'll be reduced down to a single atom once I'm through with you', but I want you to live a long life full of torture and misery. If I really did do something that bad to you, I want you to be able to see everyone living happily while you are trapped in your own dark world. I want everyone to be able to see the admirer that was stupid enough to send a threat to the prince of The Barrier. Look on the bright side, though, at least you'll be famous.
Don't like the sound of that, do you? Sorry to break it to you, but you'll either be spending a very long time in prison or killed. If you are killed, I hope it's done in a torturous and brutal way. I want to be able to hear your horrific screams that you have always hoped would escape from me. I'll wear your blood as rubies on my crown, and I'll sit on a throne of your bones.
I apologize if this letter has caused you to feel uncomfortable. You have written me a letter, and I've done my best to respond in the short amount of time I have. It would be rude not to, right?
