The cooperation between Hublot and Samuel Ross began in 2020. After three years of engineering design and research and development, the two parties successfully created the Hublot Big Bang SR_Aby Samuel Ross Tourbillon limited edition watch. This watch introduces new design elements into the case, crown, dial, strap and bezel. The new watch is based on the first watch he collaborated with Hublot. The case is made of gray color and is available in three types of electric green, black and white rubber straps. In addition, he also incorporated small but meaningful design details that have been reimagined in the new watch.
"We focus on creating timepieces that are refined, simple and expressive. SR_A wants to broaden our horizons, redefine existing design canons, and create iconic pieces that are timeless. This fully embodies our spirit of innovation, optimism and and the relentless pursuit of exquisite craftsmanship. I firmly believe that we need these three elements to open a new chapter in luxury watchmaking." said artist and designer Samuel Ross.
Integrating artistic language into Hublot's watchmaking craftsmanship is exactly Rose's creative concept when creating sculptures in 2020: using different materials to create streamlined, simple and visually impactful shapes, integrating the mysterious geometric marks of nature, and integrating the universe into the world. The history of Hubiao watch for more than 40 years is told in detail. The sculpture based on the hexagonal pattern started his creative collaboration with Hublot. Ross is well versed in the collision and fusion between high-tech elements and traditional elements, which perfectly fits Hublot's "art of fusion" watchmaking philosophy. In the process of designing the Big Bang Tourbillon watch, Ross used the hole design in the watch structure to create a transparent effect, which is exactly the same technique he used to create sculptural works of art for Hublot watches. At the same time, he combined rubber with precious metals, aiming to trace the origins of the art of fusion. He innovatively fuses these two materials with diametrically opposite qualities, achieving an exquisite balance between organic and industrial materials.
In the creation process of the new watch, Ross chose the hexagonal honeycomb shape, a shape widely found in nature that reminds people of the functionality of the watch. Like every item he designs, this watch does not ignore the wearer's needs for watch durability and ergonomics. The lightweight structure and flexible rubber strap give the watch excellent wearing comfort.
In order to incorporate this natural geometry into the design of the watch, Rose polished, frosted, hammered and perforated the titanium bridges to create a simple, smooth and tense silhouette that exudes a sense of movement.
Ross chose to create all case components in bright, micro-blasted titanium to accentuate the industrial look of the new timepiece. The buckle is even made of this material and is embellished with a matte laser-engraved Hublot logo. In order to enhance the visual beauty of the gray appearance, the crown is entirely covered with gray rubber. The tourbillon bridge is presented in neutral tones, allowing the watch to be easily paired with a smooth full rubber strap in black, white or vivid electric green.
