"He's so good!" Tanya said watching her grandson play soccer.

"Yeah I know. He's one of the smallest and fastest kids out there." I brag proudly.

Tanya nodded her head as she watched closely. She was happy to be spending some time with her grandson. I know I am part of the reason her and Crystal aren't close. Our relationship kind of just happened and it caught her parents off guard. Growing up, I didn't have these problems with ky sexuality because my parents and I never sat down and talked about it. They also never bashed me or isolated themselves from me.

"Why are you here?" I finally ask Tanya.

She chuckle and avoided eye contact with me.

"I want to make amends with my daughter." She said. "I want to be in life before it's too late." She told me.

"Too late for what?" I ask confused.

She sighed and finally looked at me.

"I don't wanna be the mom that the grandkids grow up to hate because of how I treated their mother and I don't want my own daughter to hate me." She said shaking her head.

All I could was sigh and listen to her.

Crystal doesn't hate her mom but I also know that she isn't going like that she's here.

"She didn't answer my calls... I wanted to tell her happy birthday." Tanya said softly.

"She um— she never knows how the phone call with you is gonna go." I tell her. "Your daughter doesn't like confrontation." I say shaking my head.

Tanya smiled, "I know." She said. "She's like her father in that way. Me on the other hand, I like to fix everything while it's happening." She said evening me much of myself.

Crystal and I often fight about communication. I like to get things off my chest and Crystal likes to "take five" as she calls it. She's even installing that in our son's way of thinking. To walk away and take a deep breath; check in with yourself and then come back say what you need to say.

"I love my wife and I respect our marriage, but I know that our relationships will never be as strong as it needs to be because of you." I tell Tanya.

"Well si there anything I can do?" She asks me.

"Um..." I take a deep breath and start thinking. "Maybe you can come over for dinner tomorrow and we can all just talk." I suggest to her.

Tanya smiled and nodded her head.

"Is Crystal going to be okay-"

"You let me worry about Crystal." I said touching her shoulder. "She'll take it easier from me."
