Stephanie was dreaming about meeting her lover when she was startled by someone tapping her thighs. It was her mother. She rubbed her eyes and saw her mother sitting in front of her, illuminated by the soft glow of the nightlight. Her mother was wearing a silky red nightgown, which shimmered in the light.
Because of my father's P.A., she started dressing like this. He was obsessed with her every move. But I wish I could have someone like that too. But that was a story for another time.
"Yes, mummy," I hissed, scratching my head. Either my mother was here to talk about marriage or go on a date with her friend's self-absorbed sons. Ugh, can't a girl get a break?
"I wanted to talk about something, you know, since..." I cut her off with a frown on my face.
"Mummy, if you're here in my room..." I looked at the clock and completed my sentence. "...by two am this night to talk about marriage..." I cleared my throat, pointing to my door. "...the door is right there." I looked at her, still holding the frown on my face.
"No, no, it's not that, kini!" she said, pouting her lips at me. "Me and Mrs. Adichie are going on...what do you children of nowadays call it?" She questioned, biting her lower lip in search of the word she was looking for.
"Staycation?" I asked with a questioning look.
"Ehen! That one. So we want to invite you as well!" she said, sweetly smiling at me. I squinted my eyes, trying to get the truth out of her. "Please, Nau, at least if you don't want to get married, just come for this one, please, my Munchkin." I gave in; she was just too convincing.
"When is it?" I asked, picking up my phone to check my messages.
"About six hours from now," she said, standing up.
"Six hours ke?!" Before I could say anything, I heard the door closing, signifying she had just left the room. Mother will not kill me, but I had to start packing.
We are close to the hotel already," our driver, Mr. Sam, said six hours later. I wore a sage green sundress with my white Gucci bag and some white slippers for a very casual but elegant look. I stepped down from the car, looking at the surroundings. I also invited my friend Gabriella to the whole staycation thing. My mother noticed her friend running towards her and assumed it was because they hadn't seen each other in about six years. I spotted him. He looked like an angel who'd fallen from the sky to bless my eyes. I was still daydreaming about him when I heard my name being called.
"Stephanie dear! You have grown so big; it's been so long since I've seen you," she said in a very calm voice. "Kalu, come here! Meet this lovely girl." Kalu... His name was Kalu.
He walked over and held his hand towards me to shake mine. I quickly smiled and took his welcoming gesture.
"Hey, Stephanie... Am I right?" He said it, smiling unsurely.
"Yes! It's my name, and yours is Kalu, if I'm not mistaken." I knew his mother had called his name, but I wanted to acknowledge it through his confirmation.
"Definitely! Shall we go inside? It appears that our mothers have already found their way in," we both laughed. He guided me inside the hotel with his hand on my lower back. When we got inside, I saw our mothers laughing and making small talk. I didn't think much about it.
"Ehen, Oya Kalu, take the key. Both of you guys' room." He looked at her in confusion.
"The hotel made a mistake and reserved two rooms for us. Me and her mother want to spend time together, so you two just stay there for a week. It's not that hard," she said, smiling.
What do you think the mothers want to do? Please leave your thoughts and vote so that we can get a large number of people to read. Thank you! The next chapter is coming next week on Friday. ✨💗
