"Thank you." I say with a closed lip smile.
"Don't thank me Senorita Spade. You know I'm always here to take care of you." Miss Garcia says while finishing off some bandages on my face.
Once she's finished I get up from the office chair I'm sitting on and give her a tight hug. We stay like that for a moment then start working.
She wipes a tear from her cheek that has been there since I walked through the door when she saw me, and I told her what happened. Then she went to the closet and started to unfold cardboard moving boxes.
I went to make a few calls to book plane tickets to California. She and I decided on California because it's as far as you can get from here without leaving the country.
Luckily when we moved into this apartment we didn't get too homey and unpack too much, so this move should be somewhat easy compared to others.
After I got done with moving arrangements I went to help Miss Garcia with packing. She was already almost done but I wanted to help anyway. All there was really left to do is pack clothes. We've had so many opportunities to fine tune our moving system that it is foolproof now.
As we finished up with the packing we were starting to calm down and be less frantic, so we started talking.
"So how was your night Senorita? I mean other than... the situation." She barely whispers the last part of the sentence.
"Um... It was fun." I say avoiding her gaze and continuing packing.
When I don't hear her say anything else I finally look up at her.
She was looking at me with a small grin and subtly bouncing on her knees since we are crouched on the floor.
"What?" I say nonchalantly.
"You're just acting differently." She continues her infectious smile that makes me finally smile too.
"I'm really not. It's not a big deal. I had drinks, talked, and danced. It was just a normal night out Miss Garcia." I say trying to remove my smile that just seems to not want to go away.
I don't like that it won't go away.
"No it wasn't Mija. What happened? Please tell me! Oh my goodness was it a boy?" She says this the most excited I've seen her in a while.
"No, it wasn't." I convince her and myself, or I at least try to.
"You wanna know something?" She asks confidently.
"What?" I say with an amused smirk because of how invested she is in this.
"You are a liar. And I mean that. You lie to everyone about everything. You've done it for a long time. And you're really good at it."
"Thank you." I say taking it as a sweet compliment. I probably shouldn't but I definitely do.
"You're welcome." She says disapprovingly "But, you have never lied to me. I know for a fact you haven't. Because you know I can see right through you, I've known you your whole life Senorita. I know when something is going on." She smiles and puts a caring hand on my cheek.
"Miss Garcia, I can assure you that nothing is happening-"
Then there was a knock on my door.
Saved by the bell.
I open it to see Steve, my moving arrangements guy.
Then after we discussed some stuff and finished up some final planning, we were off to California.
