A/N: Okay...So I know you guys might be mad at me, but I am now writing. I just didn't have a ton of inspiration for this story. Hate me all you want but I'm sorry I have other things to worry about and other stories I'm writing. I know people don't like the author's notes also so continuing with the book!
I had shaken off the feeling of the girl's eyes watching me. I had shaken off Haydon still not asking me to homecoming. But I hadn't shaken off the fact that I had to play with a bunch of inexperienced volleyball players.
Today was the first game of the season. Well technically it was a scrimmage, but it was against our rival school, Tinzel Middle School (No idea if it's real but just go with it) I walked up to Coach Hill, wanting to get a little more practice in before our game. "Hey Coach," I said. She turned to me. "Can Paisley and I get some extra setting in before our game? We'll just be in the hallway and the game's almost over." I glanced at the A-team's game. I wish I could be with them.
"No," Coach Hill said, "it'll only bring trouble, and you should watch your friends play." I sighed but nodded and said "ok". I sat down on the player's side of the stands and searched the crowd opposite of me for my parents. My eyes landed on Haydon's. I quickly looked away. He was here?! Why? Was it for me? Was because of his friends? Why?
Eliza hit the last kill of the game, scoring our team 25 points. All of B-team, including me, ran onto the court and made a tunnel with our arms. We cheered as loud as we could as they ran through it.
Then it was our turn. The game went back and forth, back and fourth. I got really frustrated. I was ready to beat these girls. I grabbed the ball when it was my turn to serve. I stood a few feet from the in-line and took a deep breath. The whistle blew. I served the ball. ACE!
I served ten more before they finally returned the ball and we lost the point. The game went on, and we finally won the first set. I smiled. Maybe this season wouldn't be too bad. I called us out of our huddle and ran onto the court. We beat Tinzel 25-12.
We all hugged and cheered. Coach Hill said she would talk to us the next day and that we could go see our parents. I ran to my mom. "Good job," she said. "Though I really wish youwouldn't be playing with those girls." She pointed to some of the girls on my team. I shrugged. "It's alright, I'll live."
"Good job Addie."
I turned to face Haydon, who was awkwardly standing behind me. I loved that about him. He was never one of the boys who acted like a jerk. He never talked back to a teacher. He was always socially awkward. Like me.
"Thanks," I said blushing a bit. "Why'd you come? I thought you said you were busy?"
His cheeks reddened. "I wanted to come see you play," he said.
We gave each other a little side hug before going our separate ways. I couldn't keep a smile off my face by the time we got to the car. He had come to my volleyball game! For me! This...this was going to be a great year. I just knew it.
Maybe not everything will go my way. Maybe I'll have some bumps along the road. But I'll have friends and maybe some more-than-friends to help me through it.
A/N: Thanks for reading! Hope you all enjoyed this one.
