For most people, sleep allows you to escape reality. It allows people to feel something different, something that can't be felt in real life no matter how hard they try. Me, however, I refuse to sleep. It's the same nightmare, I never sleep, but sometimes, I can't help myself.
I shut my eyes, and the cycle repeats.
"Not again..." I whisper to myself, I open my eyes. I see the same, broken, run-down, and rugged bridge I've seen for my whole life, I walk the path I've walked my whole life, I whisper to myself the same way I have my whole life. Nothing changes. I fall to the ground and begin coughing uncontrollably, blood gushing from my nose and mouth, I cough until the blood clogs the inside of my throat, I lie in my pool of blood and close my eyes slowly.
I wake up in a cold sweat, coughing and gasping for air. I grab my water bottle on my nightstand in a rush and begin chugging the water as quickly as humanly possible. I throw my water bottle on the floor as I finish. I take one last gasp of air before breathing normally once again. I hear a loud knock on the door, The Oppressors...
"OPEN UP" the Oppressors demand, from what I can gather, there's only two of them.
I grab one of my crutches and begin walking over to my door, opening it silently. Seeing two large Oppressors,
"What do you need? It's quite early in the morning, no?" I chuckle to myself, coughing half way through. "Someone in the building told us you have amphetamine, you are aware those are illegal. Correct?" He questions me. I slam the door and put the locks on, I hear the loud bangs as they begin to break the door down, I go as fast as I can on my crutches, making it to my room and blocking the door with my chair just as they break through the door. I grab the amphetamine and begin to climb out of my window as they break down the door, they rush at me and I fall out of the window, the dumpster below breaking my fall.
As I move farther away from my apartment, the more regret fills my mind. I look at the amphetamine I grabbed from my nightstand and sit in an alley. These amphetamines were made from the government to make the Oppressor's stronger, I had stolen some from one of the Oppressors a while back and they have been on my tail ever since. It won't matter anymore, I stare at the last pill in the bottle and dump it into my hand, I take a moment to think, then I take the pill.
My mussels tense up and pain is felt throughout my body, I scream in pain and grab onto my stomach, these are the only way I can fall asleep without having those dreams, the pain is so unbearable that I'm unable to dream at all. My eyes shut for one last time.
