I remember the blood like stain on my arms too well. The air was filled with laughter, the smoke from the sandal sticks vibrant with a smell befitting the loss of an soul. I ran to catch the boy who smeared the rethakaateri balm in my arm, smiling and laughing as my legs become muddier with every rain drop that grazed my glasses making it foggy. The laughter suddenly disappeared and the rain started to come down like crazy. Removing my glasses since I couldn't see anything in it I searched the open space for the boy. Realizing that I do not know the name of the boy, I became confused as to what I was doing and why I was here. A similar laughter echoed, only this time it seemed so much sinister that it made the hair on my skin raise. I was completely alone with the harsh rain pouring over the thump of my heavily beating heart. I spotted something red among the blurry greenery and I froze, a faint 'help!' ripped my soul but no word came out my mouth. Feeling helpless, I wondered if I could feign ignorance because of my eyes- for it could be anything until you see it. But as it moved closer, I could feel my heart tell- 'No, it saw you. Don't wear your glasses. Run!!'. And so I did run after 2 seconds, the laughter changed to cacophony of wired strings as I ran with my might- the slight pain in my legs and hands made me know of its bruises. 'Don't leave! come back~', the boy cooed,' Amma is calling you~'.
I stumbled at his words, a terror like no other crawled my spine. I understood his otherworldly language. I suddenly remembered what my grandma told me, "You should never listen to the words of creatures that lurk in the dark. They have the power to stop you and give you nightmares!", she used to say with a mischievous smile on her face that made you laugh. "Is that you, my dear child?", a women called out suddenly to me. I titled my eyes up to see a women in her twenties looking at me. She looked as pale as the moonlight, gorgeous dark curls framed her pure face and her smile grew wide as she said, "Yes, it is you!". She looked behind me and said, "I know her. You can't take her to Amma. You'll wait until the eclipse like everyone."
I felt something murky unlike rain run through my face. I cupped it in my hands and met with red water. "Don't look up!", the women warned. Without meaning to, I looked up to see the moonlight shadowing a creature with red eyes and red like blood dripping from her gleaming fangs. She was ferocious as a wild bear that my grandma once protected me from. But I'm alone now, No one will save me, Is this my end? Is there a possibility of this to be a nightmare?
I woke up, startled. My body was in pain and my blood felt heavy. I saw the same women tending to a flask near the fire. "You're up!", she said as she turned back. "What was that?", I said trying to understand anything. "Nothing important!", the women said," Diya, I don't have much time, they are calling me and I want you to understand that I have given you my powers to revive you. Amma never allows her prey to escape unscathed, even when it's her familiar." "Familiar?", I asked through my headache," how do you know my name?" "It's not important! As for the other part", she sighed," I couldn't keep you in the dark about it, you are her kind Diya. It might be muted but it's there. I would warned you to stay away from these things, but you are already here, aren't ya?...They are calling me back, Diya. Stay strong and if possible don't drink any more blood instead," she scurried smoothly towards me, "eat these berries." "Rethakaateri?", I asked her unsure I understand what she's saying. "Yes! You know about it, that make this easier!...Ok, Bye Diya. Take care", she smiled as she disappeared into thin air. I screamed this time and ran out as fast as I could. Miraculously, I found a searching villager who was relived that I was alive and I passed out on her back as she carried me.
Ok, I have some idea on how to develop this story! I might do a novel for this one!
