Mistkit woke up to the sound of birds chirping on the trees outside. The crisp morning air brushed against her skin. She couldn't see anything, but she could hear, smell and feel the things around her. To her, the world was always dark, and every day she was enveloped in darkness, only able to hear her friends playing around her.

Most of the time, she stayed in the nursery with her mother, Goldenflower. The smell of freshly caught mice wafted over to her, making her mouth water. She was really hungry! Mistkit stood up and felt her mother beside her. "Mistkit, what do you need?" Goldenflower asked upon seeing her daughter had woken up. "I'm hungry!" Mistkit mewed softly. "Alright, Splashkit!" Goldenflower called for Mistkit's sister, who came bounding in. "Yes, mother?" she asked, looking at her mother with his big blue eyes. "Can you get Mistkit some fresh kill, please?" Goldenflower asked the young cat. "Oh sure!" she said.

In reality, Splashkit was annoyed. She always had to do things for her sister since she was blind. "Uh! I wish I was blind so I wouldn't have to be Mistkit's slave!" she grumbled as she walked over to the pile of fresh kill. Sunsetkit was getting a mouse and greeted her with a warm smile. "Hi, Splashkit!" she mewed, happy to see her friend. "Why are you sad?" she asked, noticing Splashkit's mood. "Well, I always have to do things for Mistkit, and it's so annoying!" Splashkit complained to her friend. Sunsetkit frowned as if she was thinking about what her friend had just told her. "Well, Mistkit is blind! She would probably have to do the same for you if you were blind!" Sunsetkit concluded and grabbed a mouse before walking away.

"Good morning, Splashkit! Getting a mouse for Mistkit?" Icetuft asked as she came over to where the annoyed kit was standing. "Yeah, I am. Good morning," Splashkit replied in an annoyed tone. "How is Mistkit?" Icetuft asked, not realizing the kit was annoyed. Splashkit sighed. It was always about her sister! "She's doing good!" she huffed and grabbed a mouse off of the fresh kill pile, a bit offended that Icetuft hadn't cared to ask her how she was doing.

Mistkit's stomach rumbled. She wished she wasn't blind. Then she could get her own food! Oh, how she wished she could be normal! But that would never happen. As she waited for Splashkit to return, a strange scent washed over her. She herd a yowl as the entrance rustled, and she could tell that it was a warrior who stepped out. There was a thump on the ground, and She heard Goldenflower rush over.

"No, no, no!" She wailed. Mistkit sniffed, and took a step back. Her father was dead.
