I awoke the next morning to angry shouting and mechanical clanging outside then the sound of a familiar alarm, it was my car going off. I swung my feet over the bed and took long strides to make it quickly to the window, I peered out to see Hoyt and Monty yelling back and forth at each other while trying to get the alarm on my car to stop as they lowered my car down from the tow truck. The wood was cold against my feet and getting up so quickly caused me to have a slight headache. My feet carried me to the door, my hand grasped the loose knob and twisted it to let me be released to the house that I had fallen asleep in. I made my way to the bathroom and entered it to rinse my mouth out so I wouldn't knock anyone dead since I had left my toothbrush in my hygiene bag that I hadn't gotten to grab out of my car before I was wisked away to my current situation. Once I rinsed out my mouth and did a quick glance at my appearance and did the rest of my business, I left the bathroom and walked down the steps. The first thing to greet me was the smell of biscuits in the oven and bacon sizzling on the stove. The last step creaked as I placed my foot on it, I heard what assumed was a cooking utensil being placed quickly on the counter then shuffling to the place where I stood. Luda appeared in the opening of the hallway and smiled brightly, "Goodmorning, my dear. Did you sleep well? I hope the bed wasn't too old for you." She said with a hint of concern laced in her question. I nodded and gave a low yawn, "It was wonderful, that is the best sleep I have gotten in months. Thank you for the room." I thanked her and peaked my head around her to see if anyone else was around, "Is Thomas awake yet? I'd like to do the interview with everyone then I gotta get back on the road, I have a lot of things to see." I said with a smile not wanting to make it seem as though I was in a rush but internally I was fairly eager to get back on the road and continue my adventures. Luda's smile faded into a frown, "He'll be up when breakfast is finished. Let's just handle one thing at a time." She responded in a stern voice that sent chills down my spine and made my brows furrow at her sudden mood change. I nodded unsure of how to respond in case I had happened to make her more upset and then glanced at the front door to see Hoyt coming up the steps, mouth full of dip as usual. His dirty hands gripped the handle of the door and swung it open, he looked at Luda then let his eyes wander over to me they lingered on me causing me to shift my shoulder in his field of vision so he wasn't staring at all my vulnerable places, 'Disgusting old man.' I thought to myself as I watched his spit stained lips curl into a satisfied smirk at my uncomfortable stance. I shivered and clasped my hands together as I watched Luda make her exit back to the kitchen to finish breakfast. I took a shuffling step away from Hoyt who kept his feet planted on the wood floor. I lifted a foot hesitantly from the floor and made an attempt to make an exit from the uncomfortable air and situation that Hoyt had created that was until I felt a hand land on my shoulder and was pulled back and was spun into the wall, my back landing against the wallpaper with a firm thud. My eyes caught the sight of who had pulled me back of course it was Hoyt, "You do good to respect mama... Or you won't like what happens." He seethed as his grip tightened at his last few words I couldn't help but nod at his warning, "I do respect her." Was all that could leave my lips. He looked me up and down for a second then gave a half shove towards the dining room. I stumbled because of his shove and grumbled under my breath as I made my way into the dining room to set the table for breakfast. My feet tapped against the floor as I entered the dining room, I wandered over to the cabinet and got the tableware out and began setting the table same as I had done the night before.
Clinking of glass and clunking of metal in the sink indicated that breakfast was close to being finished. I looked over the table once more before leaving the dining room to enter the kitchen, I noticed Luda hovering over the counter looking closely at the food, inspecting it in a way that seemed a bit strange. She glanced over at my curious form that was lurking in the doorway, her blank expression shifted to a cheerful one that hid dishonesty, "Hello, my dear. Is the table ready?" She asked while returning back to her normal stance. As I smiled at her I nodded, "It is. Would you like for me to carry everything in and get the plates ready?" I asked, moving my hands up to take the pans from her. Her aged, wrinkled fingers wrapped around the pans as she handed them to me to allow me to carry them to the table. I set them down gently on the table and watched the doorway as Luda walked by assuming she was going to gather the men.
