The flaming ember of my heart crackled before all I had lost; before me, there were no more excuses or laments. I knew this moment would come, and I awaited it as eagerly as a hunting hound. The ruddy hue stained the walls, trickled down the shelves. I felt hollow, empty, as if there were no more depth within me. Yet, summoning all my courage, I took flight, unprepared for the putrid, blood-soaked lines of battle that awaited me in the forgotten snow.
