Hey all! Welcome to Starlit Paws Chapter 2 (Sorry it is a bit of a longer chapter). Ulric's story continues! Not to mention some additional characters are brought into the picture. Ulric finds himself very much alive and surprisingly volunteering to be the first to try this unknown vaccine who knows what it will do to him?
Note: This is an ongoing story and is constantly under revision. You are witnessing my writing process in as raw of a form as it can get! I encourage you if you are reading this before the work is completed, to check for updates as I will be going back through chapters adding/editing details along the way.
Bright light blinds Ulric.
I am definitely dead.
His eyelids slowly allow more light to flood through, his eyes adjusting to the room he is in. Sweat rolls down his face as he attempts to move his arm, but he is met with the pain growing in intensity.
What the fuck? How come I am hurting? I am dead, right?
Sharp pains shout throughout his head and extend to his neck, as he moves his head to the side noticing a series of glass panels and doors. People in full white body suits and masks sprint through the halls. Ulric notices one walking to the door to his room. A series of beeps and a loud click followed by a suction sound allows the door to give way the stranger quickly closing the door behind them.
"Whe..." Ulric said, his voice barely audible, and his vocal cords were like sandpaper.
The stranger jumped.
"Oh! you're awake!" the stranger waddles over to the bedside picks up a note pad and scribbles something down.
"Where...am...I?"
"Ah, and you are speaking. Good signs. Very good signs." More scribbling echoes through the room. The stranger grabs a small light and flicks it in Ulric's eyes.
"Dilation, good." He pokes at each of Ulric's limbs causing him to inhale sharply.
"Feeling in all body parts, good." A series of tests continues, with testing movement, checking vitals and Ulric thought he heard something about atmospheric stability but isn't quite sure what the hell they are talking about.
"All right, it looks like we are ready to get you cleared soon to discuss what has happened, I will be back momentarily after your chart has been finished being reviewed."
"Can I have some food and water?"
"Hmm. I can't advise you to eat anything just yet in case there is something missed and we need to do an emergency operation. But I will bring back some water for you shortly. With a curt nod, they waddle out of the room leaving Ulric to his thoughts.
Maybe if I'm alive others survived?
His heart raced at the thought of Ray possibly making it out alive. Maybe all isn't lost, they could start a new life in whatever the hell this place is. he could apologize and never take his love for granted.
The stout person waddles back in with a glass of water and Ulric greedily accepts it, gulping it down within just seconds.
"You have been cleared for a de-briefing, are you able to stand?"
"I think so. What do you mean by debriefing? how many others survived? Where exactly am I? How am I still Alive? How ---"
"Hold on, hold on," the stout person chuckles, "as I mentioned before you have been cleared for debriefing where we can answer these questions, now try and stand up."
Ulric huffs, and attempts to move every bone and muscle screaming. It feels as if several hours have passed before Ulric is sitting up and panting.
"I'm sorry, everything is on fire."
