"Did you have a fantastic week, champ?" Baekhyun inquired, effortlessly hoisting Liam into the air while balancing the boy's travel bag in his other hand.
Amidst the hustle and bustle, Taeyeon had found herself occupied. It seemed like her calendar was brimming with commitments and meetings. However, there was a distinct difference this time around. Even though the days felt packed, exhaustion never touched her. When it came to Liam, fatigue seemed like a foreign concept. The mere presence of her son washed away any weariness, replacing it with overwhelming happiness, a sense of accomplishment, and a heart full of contentment.
Every single day of the week was meticulously planned out, with an array of fun-filled activities. Taeyeon's heart swelled with pride knowing that Liam had thoroughly enjoyed their time together. From baking a fresh batch of cookies to indulging in movie marathons, from exciting trips to the zoo and aquarium to thrilling visits to fantasy lands and amusement parks. There was, of course, an inherent risk in their outings, especially with Baekhyun accompanying them. The possibility of sasaengs or enthusiastic fans recognizing them always lingered. However, they treaded cautiously, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all involved.
Liam's eyes sparkled with enthusiasm as he responded, "Yes, daddy! It felt like time just flew by, but it doesn't matter because we did so much! And guess what? We emptied the promise jar! Mommy fulfilled every single promise in just one week!"
Behind them, Taeyeon's soft laughter echoed. The knowledge that Liam cherished and appreciated her efforts filled her heart with warmth and relief. She had managed to fulfill his every wish, even after setting certain boundaries for him.
Baekhyun gently set Liam down, preparing to open the car door for him. "Now, it's my turn to make some promises," he declared with a grin, "And just like mommy, I'll make sure every one of them comes true."
As Liam climbed into the backseat, he looked up at his father, eyes filled with anticipation, "Really, daddy? Can I make loads of wishes?" His face broke into a radiant, hopeful smile.
Baekhyun nodded with a chuckle, "Absolutely! Whatever your heart desires, I promise to make it come true."
The long drive to Jeonju had taken on a somber note, marked by the bittersweet realization that Liam's school break had come to an end. The boy, nestled in the backseat, was peacefully lost in slumber, while Taeyeon was determined to stay awake, keeping Baekhyun company and ensuring he wouldn't be bored during the journey.
Breaking the silence, Baekhyun softly called out, "Taeyeon..."
Turning her gaze from the passing scenery outside, Taeyeon shifted her attention to Baekhyun, who remained focused on the road ahead.
"What do you think your mother will say? I mean... I don't know if she's upset with me for not discovering that I was the father of her grandchild. She might believe I abandoned both of you."
Taeyeon reached out and gently grasped his hand, which rested on the armrest next to the clutch. "Baekhyun, she's not upset. In fact, it was Mom who kept urging me to tell you. I'm certain she'll be overjoyed, so please don't carry that burden."
Baekhyun's grip on the steering wheel relaxed slightly, his thoughts drifting back in time. "She used to like me a lot, you know. It's embarrassing to think I once vowed my eternal love to you, and then... this happened."
"Love, it's not your fault," Taeyeon reassured him, her eyes filled with empathy. "Let's move forward and remain positive. They're looking forward to seeing you, so anticipate a warm reception. They adored you before, and I'm sure they still do." A reassuring smile crossed her lips as she gently squeezed his hand, offering the assurance he needed.
