Maturing was something Kyler didn't really pay mind to. His father had always called him immature, a "pup", but it was merely a parentally weird joke, wasn't it?
For all his life, morals weren't something that bothered him, doing anything that he felt like, the boy had no sense of the world around him, and it felt good. Funnily enough, his father, Gerard, took no fondness for his carelessness and took it upon himself to educate the boy and one day make him a Knight. But he never understood that Kyler didn't give two Mora about status or power, all he ever wanted was to be free, even if that meant he was alone.
"The lone wolf dies but the pack survives, and you're just a pup, son." his father told him as encouragement.
It started with taking him to work. Instead of letting him play with the other kids and break windows or drink, he took his hand and literally dragged him to the Dawn Winery to work: cleaning the floors, arranging book or even cooking.
The teenager hated his father for this, even resenting him after work and not speaking one word to him. For Kyler it was merely wasting time, as he did not even make money out of working.
It continued with private lessons once he was 14. Sparring, dueling: actions which later would prove enjoyable, but not while he was forced.
"My free spirited boy.." his mother called him while combing his long dark hair.
However, as much as his father would have wanted to control him, Kyler had always found a way to have fun: would that being escaping home at night or drinking with Diluc at work.
Years had passed, and Kyler's life had settled down in a way, working during the day and roaming free during the night, with little sleep in the morning. Wolvendom proved itself to be his comfort place, even meeting a boy a bit younger him named Razor.
One night however, he could not find company in the forest. Not much of a problem, he thought as he laid his sword in the grass and took a seat on a bigger rock. He looked up to the stars and closed his eyes, then began whistling a tune he had heard while working.
A strange warm wind started blowing, sounding weirdly similar to his song.
He opened his eyes to a green light, coming from his lap. Looking down, he couldn't believe his eyes: a vision.
"The lone wolf dies but the pack survives.." he could only hear from behind, but there was no one.
To this day, he believes Celestia spoke to him that day.
