If you were in a cinema right now and had to watch your life with your family and friends would they be shocked? I understand the way you would act with your parents would be different from your siblings and friends.
However, would you see yourself living a different life from the one you portray at home, school, church, work etc? God isn’t the author of confusion so you can’t be Christian one day and the other day you’re not, that means you are lukewarm Christian, which is a dangerous position to be in. You can know Jesus Christ, but do you have Jesus Christ?
How do you know you are saved? Well first accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour and second of all there should be a change in your life, God said in Ephesians 4:22-24 “to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”. The Christian journey is a hard process, there will be times when you might backslide but God teaches us how to please him in his word ,and you should put the effort into eliminating your former ways of living.
A great example is Romans 8:5-9 which states “ Some people do what their weak human thoughts want them to do. They think about the things that will make them happy. But people who live with God's Spirit as their guide think about what will make God's Spirit happy. 6 People who let their human thoughts rule them will die. But people who think about what God's Spirit wants will have life with God. They will have peace inside themselves. 7 If our weak human thoughts rule us, we become God's enemies. People like that do not want to obey God's Law. They are not even able to obey it. 8 People who let their human thoughts rule them cannot make God happy.9 But you are not like that. You no longer obey your weak human thoughts. Instead, you obey God's Spirit as your guide. That is true if God's Spirit is living in you. But if anyone does not have Christ's Spirit in them, that person does not belong to Christ.”(EASY).
With that passage, God teaches us that if we set our mind on the things of the flesh we can never please him, he lets us know that if we do, it will send us to eternal condemnation and we become his enemies since he does not like sin.
Let me make it clear, that God sent his son Jesus Christ to destroy the power of sin over people and so we could be right with him, we see this in Roman 8:3-4 “The Law that God gave to Moses could not make us free like that. We were too weak to obey his Law because we are human. But God has done what his Law could not do. He sent his own Son to become a person like us. His human body was like the body of people who do wrong things. God's Son died as a sacrifice to take away the punishment for our sins. In that way, God destroyed the power of sin over people who are weak and human. 4 God did this so that we could become right with him. God's Law showed us how to be right with him. And now we can be right with God if we live with God's Spirit as our guide. We do not do what our weak human thoughts want us to do.”
It is our responsibility to set our minds on the things of God. God makes it clear to us that if we think about God’s spirit, we will have life with God and peace inside ourselves.
The flesh doesn’t want us to surrender to God, but if we want to live a life pleasing to God we have to crucify the things of the flesh and have a mindset that thinks about God’s will. Let me remind you that the Holy Spirit is there to guide you but it's up to you to listen.
In short, God is telling us that if we set our mind to think about the things above it will flow into our actions and we will be able to live a life pleasing to him through the help of the Holy Spirit. God knows we are weak and if we were left to ourselves we could not make him happy, hence why he gave us the Holy spirit, this is stated in John 14:26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”
We need to walk in the Spirit and the Holy Spirit is higher than the flesh, as a Christian you are fighting a battle “against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, and spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places,” so we need to always be equipped with God’s armour to be able to fight these spiritual battles.
Another thing we learn is that we need to continuously work for his kingdom and strive to walk with him, because in our natural state we can easily be drawn to the things of the flesh which in the end leads us to death.
If you are idle and do nothing for God you will easily be attracted to the things of the flesh. For example, the disciples were always working for God's kingdom and their mind was solely focused on God that doesn’t mean they didn’t have times where they gave into their flesh because the mind is a battleground where the flesh and spirit fight, but because their mindset was about God and they were doing deeds for God they were able to overcome those battles. This also tells us that living for God means living a life contradicting to the world.
Being a Christian teenager is hard, there is peer pressure, drama, school etc despite that we need to set time for God or are you going to allow the pressures of the world to rule you?
Allowing God to rule over you is the best thing you can do, even if it makes you look like an outcast, on top of that you get to spend everlasting life with the Father where there will be no death, poverty, sickness, work, wars and all the bad things you can think about it, it will not be there. Why would you not want that?
Romans 8:18 “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”
Most people think that God’s rules are restricting but they are protecting us, God is the creator and we are the creation there is already a big difference, he knows more than we do so why would you want to spend a few years doing what you want on earth and miss out on everlasting life with the Father?
