(Charles Xavier & Erik Lensher)
(Takes place after the X-Men First Class movie)Charles sighed and shut off the tv. He had already been stuck in this stupid hospital for a week and all he wanted was to go home. He was tired of faking a smile and pretending he's fine when he's not. He misses Erik terribly but nobody else understands.
Charles eventually drifted off into a restless sleep. Around midnight Erik crawled through the window and pulled up a chair next to Charles. Erik sighed with relief as he looked over Charles. He seemed to be ok and making a great recovery. Unfortunately, Erik couldn't stay here. He needed to leave, he couldn't do this to Charles. Erik stood and pulled out a letter and metal rose, setting it on the table beside Charles' bed.
"I love you Charles. Goodbye, old friend," Erik whispered as he shut the window with a click.
When Charles woke up the next morning, his eyes landed on the rose. He began struggling to pull himself into a sitting position to get a better view. When he was all settled, he pulled the rose off the table. To his surprise, there was a letter underneath. Charles set the rose in his lap and slowly opened the letter.
Dear Charles,
I'm so sorry for everything. I hate myself for hurting you, because it is exactly the opposite of what I was trying to do. I love you Charles, I always have. From the moment I met you, I knew you were the one for me. And that scared me, so I pushed you away. I know you probably don't feel the same and that's okay, you don't need someone like me in your life anyway. All I do is bring you pain and suffering, you deserve better than that. I do hope that I will see you again because it's killing me to leave you. I needed to get all of this off my chest. Thank you Charles for everything. I'm sorry for all of the stuff that went down. Goodbye, old friend.
Forever yours,
Erik LensherrBy the time Charles finished reading, there were tears streaming down his face. He quickly wiped them away as he shoved the letter and rose under his blanket to hide it. A few seconds later, Hank strode in with the rest of the students trailing behind. Charles plastered a smile on his face and welcomed them in.
It was late afternoon by the time they left, which meant that Charles had about an hour of free time before dinner. He laid down and closed his eyes. He was going to try something that he hadn't done in a long time, much less without Cerebro. He took a deep breath and tried to shake the feeling that this wouldn't work.
It took a few tries, but eventually Charles found Erik's mind. He slowly let his mind wrap around Erik's as to not alert him to anything out of the ordinary. As Charles watched, Erik's mind drifted to thoughts of him. How beautiful he thought Charles was and those special nights with just the two of them playing chess. Charles could feel Erik's longing and had to stifle a sob at Erik's next thought.
But nobody could ever love a monster like me.
Charles took a deep breath and thought back, But I do love you, you dumb twit. Charles heart hammered in his chest as Erik looked up.
Charles?
Yes, it's me. We need to talk. Come back later tonight after visiting hours. With that, Charles disappeared from Erik's mind, afraid to see his reaction. For the rest of the day, Charles was on edge as he checked the clock over and over again. Finally, visiting hours were over and Charles broke into a smile as he heard the click of his window being opened. Erik climbed through, gracefully shutting the window behind him.
"Erik-" Charles began to speak but was cut off as Erik strode across the room and kissed Charles. He kissed back eagerly until Erik pulled away, his eyes searching Charles.
"Well that was," started Erik. "Long overdue," finished Charles. His eyes sparkled as he looked at Erik. "I've missed you so much." Erik looked down at his feet and sighed. "Charles. I've missed you too, more than you will ever know. But I think we should take it slow....I don't want to hurt you again." Charles stares at him for a minute before patting the bed beside him, inviting him to sit beside him. Erik does, and Charles lays his head on his shoulder. "You could never hurt me Erik."
They continued on like that, just talking and enjoying each other's company until late into the morning. Charles fell asleep curled against Erik with his head resting on his chest.
Charles woke up alone, feeling happier than he had in weeks. He knew Erik would be back because he loved Charles. And Charles loved Erik. Maybe....just maybe the world wasn't so bad after all.
