Everyone who wasn't already standing rose to their feet, clearing the path to the the thrones. The guards pulled giant doors open, revealing our parents. My mother stood proudly, practically glowing. She wore a beautiful pink gown, the sun reflecting off all of the diamonds that embellished the gown. She had her hair in a tight low bun, the golden crown atop her head complimenting her dark skin like my sister. She held the arm of my father, who wore a pink suit to match my mother. I smiled at this, my father was always like this. Whatever my mom says goes, he'd happily follow her to hell if you let him. The love they shared was something I hoped Id have one day.
They took their time walking down the pink carpet, people giving their thanks and blessings as they walked by. My father took my mothers hand and helped her up the stairs and into her throne before standing is front of his.
"I want to take the time to thank everyone for showing up in support of our precious daughters. With them coming of age, we are entering a new era for the realms..." my father voice faded in my head as my focus was drawn into the crowd. With everyone's attention on my father speaking they were all facing us. My eyes scanned the crowd, landing on that obsidian crown.
I almost gasped as we made eye contact. He was staring directly at me. It was like I could feel his eyes on me, inspecting me, and it made me shuffle on my feet.
He was tall, towering over most in the crowd. His hair was an ocean of inky waves that framed his angular face. His skin was an oak color and his eyes were like daggers, sharp and cunning. His lips were pink and full, smirking to reveal straight white teeth and elongated canines.
Leila nudged me, snatching my attention away from the unfamiliar man. Her eyes darted between me and the guy, giving me look asking who he was. Like I know!
I shrugged, and she smirked. "He's hot." She whispered fanning herself. I gave her a discreet slap on the hand, turning to face the crowd again. I looked for the 'hot' stranger, but he was gone. How did he leave the crowd that fast, there's got to be at least five hundred people packed in here. What the hell?
I looked over the crowd a few more times but I didn't see him, so I decided to give up on looking as actually focus on what my father was saying, which I should been doing from the beginning.
"Now as you all know, our daughters are of age, and are ready to be wed, so I'm expecting some of you young princes to be asking for their hands. If you're brave enough, that is." Laughter fell over the crowd and my dad smiled.
"Just know, I'll only be accepting the offers of our strongest, those who I can trust will take care of my daughters. You will only be blessed with the presence of one of my daughters if I deem it to be so." He said, his eyes glaring at he the crowns scattered across the room.
My father has always been protective of us girls. I'm sure he had an idea from the day we were born that we would one day marry and move on from here, but now that the day is finally upon us I'm sure it's hard for him. It's hard for all of us.
"My daughters are the healing that the realm needs, so must be prepared for the power you will hold by wedding one of them." He said, his eyes scanning the crowd again, then us, landing on me. "With great power, comes great responsibility."
I nodded at my father and he gave me a smile before turning back to the crowd. "Now, enough of the sappy stuff. Please, mingle, dance, enjoy yourselves!" The crowd clapped happily, and father gave an over exaggerated bow before sitting in his throne again. My mother rolled her eyes, smiling as she squeezed one of his hands.
The four of us girls walked over to where our parents stood, giving them thanks before going our separate ways to "mingle". Again, we knew what this really meant, trying to find someone we find suitable as a husband.
