I woke up to the smell of a bacon. I could barely open my eyes but I still got up and tracked the smell into the kitchen. There was Bella pulling bacon out of the oven.
She turned to me. "Audrey, you know I've been thinking about what you said. Maybe I do need to become more responsible, so I decided to make breakfast for you guys."
I'm confused. Did Bella hear nothing last night? It must have been a dream, just as I thought. No. It couldn't have. I saw what I saw. My eyes don't lie to me.
"Ya...uh thanks. Have you seen Ceanna this morning?" I ask.
"Nah. I think she is still sleeping."
I must have missed her when I got up this morning.
"K thanks"
I leave the kitchen, go up the stairs, through the hall, and into my room. I'm a little scared that she is in the same condition that she was in last night. I'm not a little scared.
I walk into my room, a little shaky and I see Ceanna, lying on my bed, awake, and looking depressed. Pheewww. She's not creepy anymore.
"What's wrong? You don't look good." I say to Ceanna.
"I think I'm sick. My throat burns, my stomach aches, and I feel hot."
Poor thing.
"I'm so sorry. I will get you some Cold Care and I will take your temperature"
I start to leave the room.
"Wait, Audrey, don't go!" Ceanna says.
"What is it?" I ask.
"I dreamt a dream last night!" Ceanna says sadly.
"I too dreamt"
"And what was your dream?!" Ceanna asks enthusiastically.
"That dreamers often lie!" I say cleverly.
"Huh? I don't get it."
"Nothing. It's just a quote from Shakespeare. I don't expect you to know who he is anyway." I say disappointed.
I'm kind of a theater nerd.
"Okay then... So can I tell you my dream?" Ceanna questions.
"Sure. What was it?" I ask.
"There was a big, green, tall tree. It was so pretty. Hanging from the tree was a swing made of rope and wood. I was sitting on the swing and you were behind me."
"Is that it?" I ask.
"No! I didn't finish" Ceanna says angrily.
"Continue then..."
"I asked you to push me but you didn't respond. I turned to you but you were backing up like you had seen a ghost..."
I did see a ghost last night. It was you.
"... You were scared of me Audrey! You kept on running and running!" Ceanna yelled.
Ceanna started to cry. I didn't know she was THIS scared about her dream.
"You started to scream and panic, still looking me in the eyes, like I was a monster!" She shouts.
I sat down on the bed and gave her a little hug but she kept on crying.
"Are you scared of me Audrey?! Are you?! Ceanna yelled.
"No. of course not." I lied.
"Why would I be scared of you anyway?" I asked.
"I don't know. Because you were scared in my dream." Ceanna said.
"There is nothing to be afraid of Ceanna. If you want to feel better tomorrow you need to get more sleep."
"Wait... what was your dream?" Ceanna asks.
"Umm I... uhh forgot" I lie again.
I leave the room before she asks me any more questions.
I go down stairs and eat breakfast with Bella. Maybe she has changed, just like she said. Through out the day I check on Ceanna. She's not getting any better. I'm even considering taking her to the Doctors office to get her checked on. The rest of the day is a blur. I was constantly taking naps and texting Chloe. While texting Chloe, Bella calls my name from the living room. I go down stairs and find Bella.
"What's wrong?" I ask.
"I was re-reading the note from Mama and Papa when I realized there was an envelop glued to the back with a twenty dollar bill inside. On the envelop it said 'this should cover all expenses'" Bella says with a mad look.
"Are they kidding? This has got to be a joke. I was acually thinking about taking Ceanna to the doctor. I can't anymore." I say angrily.
"Maybe I can call them to see if they can give me their credit card number. I reach over and grab the home phone off of the kitchen counter and hand it to her. She dials a number into the phone, and puts it to her ear. I can hear the constant ringing.
No one is picking up. Bella hangs up. Where the hell are they?
"Ugghhh" Bella says in frustration.
"When's the last time you spoke to them on the phone?" I ask.
"Uhh... I don't know. A day ago."
I don't know what to do. I take the phone out of Bella's hands and dial Grammys number. I put the phone to my ear and wait for Grammy to pick up.
"Hello? Grammy, are you there?" I ask.
" Yes sweetie. It's me. Is there a problem?" Grammy asks me through the phone.
"Ya...uhh... there kind of is. Mama and papa said they were going going to be gone for a week but they only left us twenty dollars. Ceanna is sick and we can't bring her to the doctors office because we can't pay for it..."
"Did you try to call them?" Grammy says.
"Yes. Of course we did but they didn't pick up. I was wondering if you have heard from them." I ask.
"I'm sorry sweetie but I haven't. I would love to take Ceanna to the doctor but you know how far away I live. If I hear anything from them I will call you right away. Okay? I'm going to go now."
"Love you gram. Bye." I slam the phone down, onto the kitchen counter in frustration. I pace a few times and then go strait upstairs. I stomp into my room, forgetting Ceanna is there. Suddenly I see her on my bed sleeping. Sleeping like an angel.
