*Unknown POV*
"I'm trying so hard not to cry in front of you all right now. This is so surreal to me, I have dreamt and worked so hard for this moment..."A shadowed figure watches her carefully as she chokes back on her words trying not to sob on live tv. They can hear the crowd in awe of her standing on stage in the most elegant dress worn tonight. The camera crew has made sure that everyone at home can see every angle of the dress and her in it.
"She definitely has everyone's attention with that fucking red dress." The shadowy figure huffs as their gloved hand clenches the tv remote tighter. Their anger and eagerness to hear more of what she has to say is shown through the way it lures closer to the tv. As if they need to dissect every movement and word that comes out of her, only to brush it all off as an insult to themselves.
"...You all know my mother, Mai Chanthavong, the first Laos woman to win an Academy Award. She gave our community a platform and without her I wouldn't be standing here today, winning a Grammy award. Mom, I hope I'm making you proud. Thank you to my fans and everyone who has supported me. I love you all-"
A loud crash echos in the dimly lit room and the tv light turns off. With the tv being the only light source, the room is fill with utter darkness and silence. The silence is soon broken with crashing and grunting sounds by the shadowed figure demolishing the tv to pieces. Her last words, I love you all, echoing in their head and fueling them with pure hatred for our now Grammy award winning artist, Lacy Mai.
*Lacy's POV*
My dad reaches out his hand to help me down the stairs of the stage, as the crowd cheers and claps for me. The MC's voice begins guiding the audience to the next event of the night. My arm is hooked with my dads' as we walk back to our table together, smiling at everyone's congratulatory faces. "Rate my speech, 1 to 10?" I whisper."I give it a solid 10," dad smiles at me and gives me a small arm squeeze. "Your mom and I are so proud of you."
His words form a lump in the back of my throat, and I have the urge to cry again. I want nothing but to wail into tears like a little girl. I wish she were here to see this. My lips form a silent, "thank you," as dad goes to sit on the opposite side of the rounded table from me. He gives me a warm smile and gives the MC his attention.
A warm breath touches the back of my ear and a familiar irritating, deep voice whispers," Congrats, nepo baby." My ears and face heat up with anger because the only person that would ruin such a beautiful moment for me is the one and only, Nicolas Valera.
The new bodyguard that was assigned to me a month ago after my old bodyguard, Lewis, had to resign. It was due to his declining health issues; he had been my bodyguard for the last 3 years. I looked up to Lewis like family, he was pretty much like a great uncle to me. Nicolas is nothing like Lewis and if anything, he's a pain in my ass. I've never met a man so infuriating like Nicolas, it's almost like he exists to annoy me. My lips form a tight smile and grumble out a, "Thanks, stupid."
Nicolas rolls his eyes at me as he continues to look around the room, full of famous celebrities, with absolute boredom. He has his chin resting in the palm of his left hand as his long fingers caress his jawline. I still haven't figured out why I was given such a cocky, rude, asshole of a bodyguard. He does his job great but, he annoys me with his pretentious comments in-between. With his consistent shitty attitude, I don't even know why he applied to the job. Especially since all he does is complain and roll his eyes every time I'm in his presence, it's like he doesn't want to be here.
My old bodyguard, Lewis, was the complete opposite of Nicolas. He always treated me with kindness, respect, and supported me endlessly. When my dad couldn't be there because of work, Lewis was, he was always there for me. I've sent multiple complaints to my dad about how irritating Nicolas is and he has only been able to reassure me that he's just a temporary bodyguard.
