Chapter 1- Love

-Troye Sivan-

"Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten."

"Daddy, I need to pee." I quickly folded the corner of my page and placed it down in front of me, looking over and meeting the gaze of wide brown eyes. I let out a quiet chuckle at the way she bit her lip and nodded at me rapidly as if to prove she needed the toilet. Her blond hair was in two pigtails, one draped over each shoulder, reaching just below her shoulder. Of course she had insisted that she had them in pigtails because she didn't want the plane to crash and her hair fall in her face while she was running. Her mind never ceased to amuse me. I reached over and unbuckled her seatbelt, getting out of my seat and clasping her tiny hand. My movements managed to alert the man sitting in the seat just across from me and he looked up at my face, a small smile crossing his features. He looked down at the small child clinging on to my hand and looking desperately in the direction of the toilet.

"Toilet break babe?" He asked with a grin and I returned the gesture. He looked back down and reached over, tugging one of the pigtails of the little girl which got her attention as she turned to look at him. She wasted no time folding her arms across her chest and frowning at him in the best way she could as he refrained from laughing. I watched as she quickly scolded him for touching her hair and distracting her from going to pee.

"I wonder who she got that sass from," I looked at him with a raised eyebrow and smirk as he rolled his eyes. She tugged on my hand again and I turned to look at her. Instead of speaking she pointed at the toilet with her legs crossed and I let out a sigh. I began walking down the aisle of the plane and got in the small queue that had formed outside the plane toilet. Humming a song under my breath I drummed the fingers of one hand on my leg while still holding her hand in the other. Just as we were about to go in the cubicle I heard a loud shout of "dad!" and turned around just in time to catch a curly haired boy rushing at me.

"Lucas! Slow down before you bump into someone." He looked up and nodded, mumbling an apology to the stern lady behind me. I offered her a smile but she just glared at me. Instead I grabbed Lucas and Emily's hand, quickly leading them into the cubicle. After a demand that we turn round, I looked at Lucas who was facing the wall with his legs crossed. Honestly you would think we never let the kids go to the toilet when they've already been three times on the plane. I helped them both got to the toilet and walked back to our seats, ignoring the patronizing stare from the woman.

"Did you get Lucas okay?" Tyler asked, his eyes not leaving the screen of his laptop. I reached over and clicked in front of his face, causing him to look a bit startled and look at me. I had tried to convince him to leave at home along with my own precious laptop but he wouldn't hear of it. He gave me an apologetic look before quickly shutting his laptop down and turning to look at me.

"Yes I got him but please don't send him screeching at the top of his lungs through a plane." Lucas quickly protested and Tyler laughed, tickling his stomach as Lucas' protests turned into peals of laughter and yells to stop. I swatted Tyler on the arm and gave him a glare, slightly annoyed that he completely ignored what I said. He let out a sigh and reached over, taking my hand in his warm grasp and lifting it, dropping a kiss on my fingers. I felt my spontaneous anger melt as quickly as it formed and smiled at him. He always had been one to diffuse my fears and annoyance; I didn't know what I would be able to do without his calming presence.

"Papa stop kissing daddy!" I watched the blush spread on Tyler's cheeks as he dropped his head on my hand with a groan as Emily leaned round from behind me and told him off. I let out a laugh and brought my other hand up to thread my fingers in his hair, quickly dropping a small kiss in his blonde locks. We stayed there for a moment with his breath evenly tickling my knuckles and I eventually sat up in my chair, stroking my thumb across his hand once before letting go. I turned round to notice that Emily had managed to get her little suitcase from under her chair and was wrestling with a colouring. I leaned over and got it out for her, opening the small tube of colouring pencils. She grinned up at me in return then began to carefully colour in the tumbling mane of Rapunzel's hair.

I glanced back over to Tyler's row and Lucas was immersed in Tyler's IPhone, Tyler watching him with a smile playing on his lips. Every few seconds his eyes would droop and Lucas would tug at his shirt to grab his attention again. I silently laughed at the pair. I then looked slightly past Lucas to see our oldest child staring out the plane window with a grumpy frown on his face. I sighed under my breath at his behaviour, still angry at him from his attitude. Teddy had always been the quieter, moodier one of our kids but Tyler always put it down to the fact that he had just turned fourteen. He was always calming me down after Teddy had hit a particularly soft spot of mine; his words always carried a sharp edge. I thought he would have loved the trip but after telling him no technology except his camera, he immediately threw a strop which he had managed to carry on right up until now.

Upon hearing my breath quicken slightly as it always did when I stressed about something, Tyler looked over, following my gaze and immediately catching onto the subject of my stress. He reached over and placed his palm on my cheek, the tips of his fingers softly stroking the sides of my hair. I let out a breath through my nose and closed my eyes, his warm palm relaxing me bit by bit. I let my eyes open slightly and he just smiled at me sympathetically, shaking his head slightly as if telling me to just leave it. I gave him a small nod and he smiled a bit wider, twirling a lock of my hair round his finger before releasing it and turning back to Lucas. I glanced at Teddy one more time only to notice he was already watching me. He kept up his glare for a second before his gaze softened and he gave me a small smile. I felt the tension melt from my body as I smiled back at him. We broke the eye contact after that and I looked ahead, my thoughts softening from angry gnarls to tranquil waves.

A small ding alerted me that it was time to put our seatbelts on and I leaned over, packing up Emily's stuff and clicking her seatbelt into place. She gave a small whine of protest but when I looked at her she just buried her head in my stomach and let out a noise that sounded like a groan. I couldn't help but smirk as I knew just where that noise came from: Tyler. I looked over and saw him clicking Lucas's belt into place and promising him the IPhone later on. Teddy carried on looking out the window after securing his, the back of his curly hair all that could be seen.

It was rather funny actually. Lucas looked a lot like me with dark, brunette curly hair which we had trimmed slightly on the sides. His skin was a lot paler than his siblings, which I always struggled with, and his lips were always a rosy red. Emily however looked so much like Tyler with her blonde hair and wide smile. Whenever they interacted with each other they looked so similar, it was weird. Teddy was somehow a mix of both Tyler and I, his curly blonde hair which he now let run free most of the time like I eventually did. He had my pale complexion and Tyler's bright eyes. My heart sped up slightly, it always did when I thought about these things, and I could never quite comprehend how lucky I was.

All of a sudden, a brilliant glare of sunlight filtered through the window lighting up their faces. Teddy's defined cheekbones were brought into focus along with each little freckle that was faded on his cheeks. He tilted his head slightly, his mouth opening to let a small puff of air and a smile was teasing the corners of his lips. My heart full in my chest I moved onto Lucas whose hair was tinted gorgeously in the sunlight, his excited grin adorned with pearly white teeth. His cheeks had a flushed tint to them which hinted how excited he really was and his eyes were bright with joy. I let out a content breath and glanced down at Emily who was looking out the window but still had her small hand latched onto three of my fingers. Everything about her was so delicate and she looked round at me, her eyes wide with happiness. She soon returned her eyes to the window, looking in wonder at the miniscule place below us.

I then looked across the aisle one more time and my heart felt like it did that day I married him. I always told myself that once we were married I would get over the embarrassing displays of my addiction. However I could never quite grow used to the beauty of him and everything he did. I still had the urge to run my fingers through his hair or brush my knuckles against his soft cheek. He slowly looked round as he noticed my gaze on him and we locked eyes, my breath falling out in long puffs as if I was admiring an art piece of some sort. In a way I was, he was my own personal from of art and the definition of beauty in my world. I told myself I would eventually get used to Tyler Oakley.

I never really did.
