audrey's P.O.V.
____________
sad lyrics of broken hearted country singers filled the tiny, red truck my mother drove as i tapped my foot softly to the beat beside her."how far away are we?" i questioned my mother, turning my head to face her.
my mother smiled softly, her soft, brown eyes steadily on the road. "another block or so." she replied in her low, raspy voice.
i nodded at her response, knowing she was able to spot me from the corner of her eye.
i never wanted to leave behind our old house in texas, but after my father died in a tragic construction accident, my mother had wanted to move away from our home and all of its history--to get a fresh start.
but, your past builds strength within you, and i believe that we shouldn't run away from it. everyone had always said my mother and i are complete opposites, besides our looks. we have the same golden hair and chocolate brown eyes. although, i have the adventurous and reckless personality of my father.
my mother was always frightened of everything and ran from all of her problems. but, we completed eachother, thats what matters.
i observed the scenery of our quaint, new neighborhood, until my mother proceeded to turn into a medium sized driveway after the moving trucks leading us in.
"this is it?" i asked looking over the house, a little surprised by the size of it. it seemed a little too large for just two people.
my mother nodded as she turned her head towards me. "do you like it had?" she asked me, gesturing towards the house.
"well of corse!" i exclaimed, a bright smile appearing on my fair lips. This house was nothing like our small country home in texas.
my mother parked her car at the end of the driveway and the two of us began to make our way inside the gigantic, brick mansion.
tons of neighbors surrounded our home, along with woods. my mother elbowed me in the side and whispered that she needed to make a quick phone call.
i nodded suspiciously and decided not to make a comment and simply opened the brown, wooden door to be greeted by five giant, empty rooms.
i smiled joyfully and walked inside. i made my way to a beige room that held our fridge and stove, which i assumed was the kitchen. i turned my head toward a sudden noise from across the room, my long, blonde hair following my jolting movement. i suddenly found three strangers in my frame of sight.
one of them was a girl who looked around my age, with long platinum blond hair, gathered in a side fishtail braid. she had powerful icy blue eyes and was clothed in a white beach dress paired with chestnut colored gladiator sandals.
the man beside her, who I assumed was her father, had shaggy, platinum blonde curls and piercing blue eyes, such as his daughters. He wore a navy blue dress shirt and kaki shorts.
he held a little boy in his muscular arms that appeared to be around five with the lengthy blonde hair and the same icy blue eyes the family inherited.
the girl held blue balloons and tin-foiled food in her hands.
"woah!" I blurted out, taking a small step backwards as i caught a glimpse of the sight that was presented to me.
i thought this house was sold. i said in my head watching the family's eager grins painted onto their perfect faces.
the petite girl stepped forward, so she was directly in front of me. "oh it is", she said to me, with a little giggle, her crystal eyes sparking.
i didn't bother to ask her how she knew what I was thinking, i was a little too afraid.
"we're your new neighbors." she explained, her voice like a song. "i'm aspen waters", she continued.
"and this is my father, patrick waters, and my sister, blu waters" she said, gesturing to the man who held the little boy.
"oh." i commented, nodding, trying to play my best smile. "nice to meet you all" i told the family.
they clearly loved the beach and appeared to be just a tiny bit off. but, they came across and harmless and kind folks.
patrick placed blu down and stepped forward beside aspen. he was tall and radiated powerful energy, one that was capable of giving you nightmares.
he place his open, muscular arm around his eldest daughter and smiled at her, before he drew his attention back on me.
"my little aspen will be in your grade at school this year audrey" he explained, using my name, which i had never mentioned. i simply assumed he'd have known it from word around the street.
i nodded my head in response to his words. "that'll be fun" i spoke, a reassuring smile on my face. and i wasn't intending to be sarcastic. since i was new to this school and did not know a single soul, a familiar face couldn't hurt.
blu waddled to his sister as she gave her the tin-foiled food. "here's something we-we made you." he stuttered, holding out the fishy food. he was literally the cutest kid i've ever seen.
i crouched down to his height as i took the food from his little, shaking palms. "thank you blu." i said softly as i placed the food on top of the counter behind me.
the small family beamed at me. "well now, see you tomorrow audrey" aspen said as a piece of her hair from her messy braid feel upon her slim face, as aspen attempted to blow it away from her dazzling eyes.
i tried another convincing smile towards the family and broke eye contact with them to look at the food behind me, which glowed. "wait a min-" i began as i shifted my gaze from the food to face the waters family. but, they disappeared.
i was tempted to look under the foil, but i was too afraid. i decided to refrigerate it, just to make sure that whatever was in there stayed cool.
i placed the container on the empty top shelf and headed back outside to meet my mother, who had just finished her important phone call.

i sighed softly, letting out a small puff of air as i unpacked the last box of my fashionable clothes.
my room with painted light pink at the moment, with hints of pale color all around the room, perfect.
i quickly changed into comfy, grey shorts and my old school's sweatshirt and got ready for bed.
i flipped the light switch and laid down under the queen sized white covers of my bed.
i thought about my first day of school tomorrow and all of the senarios that could possibly happen to me. hopefully the students won't be as strange as aspen.
with that final thought, i glanced out my window, closing my eyes, while i slowly drifted off into a deep slumber.
