CHAPTER 02

"Wow. That was some John Wick fancy business."

As she heard the voice Key gasped and felt herself about to lose balance from the startle. 

"Shh." Pili quieted everyone. Key and looked at the two boys.

"Are you guys thieves?" The little red one asked, backing away a bit and going behind the blond boy.

The redhead was thin and had freckles decorating his face stopping along the rim of his glasses.

The Blond boy on the other hand looked stronger, he was tall and had hair falling into his face. He had blue eyes and a playful look on his face.

"yeah, are you?" He said, Pili looked at him annoyed, "Oh please. No ones stealing anything."

The Redheaded boys eyes traveled down to where Pili was holding the book, I cautiously slipped it away from her hands and hid it behind my back.

"then what's that?" The redheaded boy asked, pointing to the book sticking out my back.

I opened my mouth before Pili umped in. 

"None of your business." She quickly answered taking the book back from me.

"Who are you guys?" I asked them as Pili looked up from the book.

"That's fair," The redhead boy remarked.

"I'm Casper, Aloha!" He said sticking out his hand.

Pili looked at his hand and slapped it before saying, "Pili."

The blond bot made his way over, kicking a stone before reaching us.

"Kai." He said stuffing hi hands in his pocket.

"Kealoha, but most people just call me Key." I said fidgeting slightly with my fingers.

"So, Kimo's your grandpa?" Casper asked.

I nodded, "Genetically I guess..." Pili said.

I glanced over to what Casper had dragged along.

"Is that your cat?" I asked pointing to the cat in the wagon.

Kai shook his head, "It's Casper's."

Casper looked at him, "technically it's yours too."

Kai looked back at Caper and nudged him a bit. 

"I guess" Kai said shrugging.

"What's up with him?" Pili asked moving closer.

"This is Mortimer." Casper started.

"He's obese so I have to walk him. Or he might end up with diabetes."

I looked at the boy confused, "Wait then why are you carrying him around in a wagon?"

Kai turned to me, "He says it's to motivate him."

Suddenly a voice was heard in the background.

"Where you come from, girls?" I heard Papa ask.

Pili looked at us panicked.

"They came over to meet Mortimer." Casper jumped in.

Pili and I nodded before she sheepishly petted Mortimer.

I looked over at Kai before being snapped out of my thoughts.

"Are we going to do the thing or what?" Papa asked Casper.

"Oh, yeah. Come on Casper." Kai remarked back.

"All right." papa said before turning and walking on a trail. 

I followed behind, glimpsing at the blond ever so often.

"Red-headed Cardinal." Casper started before hesitating to continue.

"You look like you knew how to have a great time." He sat back into his legs. 

"Until we meet again." Kai kneeled down next to me and I followed his actions.

Finally, Casper let the bird rest, where he would sleep and be buried forever.

I hated having those thoughts, they only seemed to remind me how that could be me one day.

"Wait, that wasn't your bird?" Pili asked softly from behind me.

"No, they're not my pets" Casper said starting to stand up.

I stood up too, "It's still a life though." I said still looking at the ground.

"Yeah, it's still sad if they died." Casper said as Kai stood.

"I guess it would suck if no one cared." Pili said joking, "Agree with you Pili." Kai said before we all moved back.

"But we honor the dead by telling stories," Kai started before grabbing a shovel along a tree.

"And by keeping their wailua alive," papa added on.

"Their spirit," Kai continued,

"With...aloha," Kimo added

But Aloha also means goodbye.

"Woah." I heard Pili say.

"Breathtaking." I whispered.
