The ballroom was deafening. The hallway was quieter than death. If I had the time, I'd find peace in the silence. But everyone has their duties, and mine isn't lenient about slacking off.

I wasn't sure where I was in the large castle. You'd think I'd have this place memorized by now. But I do know this room is most exquisite. The only reason I work for the crown is to pay off debt, but I would clean this room for free. 

A drowsy feeling snaked around me like a large cloak. I sat down on the edge of the bed and gazed out of the huge double doors that led to the balcony. The stars shone like tiny orbs full of majesty. Before I was enslaved to this lifestyle, I would be at home with my family. The earthy smell from the woods, the soft grass enveloping me, and the stars shining down on us like teasers to what Heaven would look like. I was deep in my thoughts until I heard an unsettling noise.

The door opened, and I shot up from the bed. The prince walked in. I stammered and struggled to find words. Not because he is of high rank, I am around people like that most days of the week. People with domineering auras tend to envelop most of my days. It is that he is the kindest of the royal family. Like most girls my age, we all fawn over him, but I'd be a fool if I do not admit I've been an admirer of him since I was a small girl. I bowed before him. "Your Highness, I do apologize for laying around in your quarters. I was feeling rather weak and decided to rest. May you have it in your heart to forgive me?"

"You may call me Liam. There's no need for formal titles. You're in my quarters, so you go by my rules. I find no issue with you seeking rest. Aren't you as human as I?" He gave me a warm smile. Despite the superiority, the casualty was refreshing.

"I suppose you are right. Shouldn't you be dancing with a beautiful debutant? And if I'm not mistaken, the ball is still going, yes?" He sighed.

"I believe you are correct. The ball is still happening. Although, I am not intrigued by the many beautiful debutantes. I wished to return to my quarters, so I did. These events aren't as exquisite as you are led to believe. As a royal, I am thrown to blood thirsty mamas and forced to fill dance cards. And as for you, you are obligated to clean up after wealthy slobs." I couldn't help but chuckle at his over exaggeration.

"Then run away from the vicious beasts known as mamas." He laughed, almost snorted. I felt embarrassed. Did I say something wrong?

"If only it were that easy. That's why I escape parties. It's the closest thing I have to an escape of royalty itself. Perhaps, if you wouldn't mind, could you show me what it's like to not be me for one night?" I got an idea. May I get in trouble for what I might do? Yes, but will I do it anyway? Also, yes.

"Then let's give you a night of freedom, Liam." He smiled. It was cheeky and cute. His dimples make it look like he has a baby face. His blue eyes, curly brown hair, freckles, and toned body doesn't help the cause either.

I went to grab my mop bucket. We made our way to his balcony. I gave him a bucket full of soapy water. I dumped it on a pretentious rich man below us. "That's how it's done. Dump it on people you aren't fond of." He looked delighted and dumped it on Lord Perry. Lord Perry started yelling, and we ducked before he could see us.

"Oh my heavens! You're mad! I love it!" I'm most certain I was beaming like a little girl on Christmas morning. I haven't been complimented like that in forever. I couldn't help but blush a tad bit. 

To keep myself from spiraling in my joy, I changed the subject. "You don't like Lord Perry?" He scoffed playfully. 

"Of course not. He's an agitating and vain bugger. He's always trying to ask for my sister's hand in marriage. I'm perplexed his knee does not crumble when he gets on it to propose." We both laughed until we couldn't breathe. He wasn't wrong, though.
