Chapter 40

Kawaki's POV

"This is troublesome!" I complain as I try to finish the work we left yesterday as it had a slight issue. I took over Hana's part since she made a mistake in the mixture and I don't know where the hell she is right now.

This is a pain in the head truly a drag. I think I need a break. I walk out of the room to get some fresh air and get something to drink as well to cool my head a little.

Walk to the cafeteria and buy an orange juice. Soda doesn't work well with my stomach and may cause discomfort. I take a sip, leave the place immediately, and go back to the laboratory room to finish the project.

But before I can get to the lab, I hear the voices of girls, and seems like they're fighting over something. The conversation gets clearer as I walk near the voices.

One familiar voice hit my ears and due to my curiosity, I peeked at the girls to find out who are they. To my surprise, it's Hana and her sister Nana, the former Student Council President. Nana seems to be upset with Hana. I can see the anger on her face.

"I told you to keep them!" Nana shouts at her sister.

"What are you talking about? You asked me to hand it to you and I did. It's your carelessness don't blame me!" Hana shouts back at her.

Just what the hell are they talking about? Didn't they realize someone would hear them indecently fighting like that?

"Shinki should not know about this or else both of us are dead!" Nana states with a dreadful look on her face.

Why that bastard is mentioned here? What are these things they are talking about?

"You must find them before Shinki knows they're missing," Hana stressed and Nana looked devastated. I smell something fishy with these girls. They're hiding something and that's for sure.

"Alright, I should go now and start searching for them. Damn, why did it slip my mind?" Nana says while gritting her teeth in disgust.

I should escape now or they will see me hiding here. "But, where should I go?" I look around to find a place to hide. "Oh, the bushes!" I mutter and dash to the bushes and hide.

They walk out together and separate ways. Glad I managed to hide before they could notice me. These things still baffle me. What's going on now?

Maybe it's personal since they are all related I should not get involved in this but there's something inside me that feels uncomfortable after hearing that bastard's name.

A deep sigh comes out. I'm stressing myself with other people's business instead of focusing on our failed project. I throw the emptied orange juice can shoot it in the trash bin and manage to get back to the laboratory.

"Sorry, I'm late, Kawaki!" Hana gasps and falls to her knees. "Did you run around?" I say when I noticed that she struggles with her breathing.

"Yes, I rush to meet with you here," she responds after calming herself. Oh, was she in an argument with her sister earlier? Well, it's not my business anyway but I can't help thinking about that thing they're fighting about.

"It's almost complete. I'll just let you check on it perhaps there might still be things to work on," I tell her and she just nods but based on her gestures she has something to tell me.

"Um, Kawaki?" she mutters in a weak voice as if she is hesitating. I stare at her and I notice red blushes on her cheeks. I don't know what that means.

"Hm, is there something wrong?" I'm clueless as to what she is going to tell me.
