Chapter 4.
She tried to reach out to the voice in her mind again but the faded away as if it was never there before. She wanted to grab her head to make the silly headache go away but she couldn't because of the wires and all.
She wished she could remember a thing or someone would just tell her something but instead her headache worsened. She was tired of everything around her, she didn't trust Leonard and the pack doctors were not telling her a thing. Brittany was the nicest among all of them. Sometimes she brings books and reads them to her but she says nothing to her. Her company was always nice like a form of escape from the mysterious world she woke up in.
Brittany explained to her that they were werewolves, including Diana and they all used to live in a very big pack house before the vampire incidents. Her brother Leonard was the alpha and Howard the Beta was betrothed to Diana because the Alpha wouldn't allow her to be mated to a weakling or a coward. The girl was talkative but she was the only Diana trusted for the time being.
After reading two pages of the romance book to Diana and explaining the concept of soulmates and mates to Diana, Brittany left her alone to digest all the confusing information.
The sterile hospital room gradually faded from Diana's awareness as she slipped into a dreamless slumber. She longed for the comforting embrace of the mysterious man in the clearing, the only presence that felt familiar despite her memory loss. In her dreams, he visited her again, his voice like a soothing melody.
"You're here," Diana whispered, her eyes locking onto his crimson gaze as he entered her dreamlike world. The mysterious man wore the same enigmatic smile, his presence both reassuring and elusive. He never hinted at their shared past at all and even if he did, he knew she would forget again.
"I missed you," he said, his voice dripping with affection. "It feels like an eternity since we last met."
Diana's heart ached at his words, longing for the connection they shared, even if it remained shrouded in mystery. She couldn't remember the depth of their bond, but it echoed in her soul, a missing puzzle piece she yearned to find.
"Tell me," Diana implored, her voice trembling with emotion. "Who are you? Why do I feel this connection between us?”
The mysterious man's smile waned, replaced by a solemn expression.
"You have questions, my dear Diana," he replied, "and I promised you answers. But there is something you must do first."
Diana's eyes widened, her curiosity piqued. "What do I need to do?"
"Find Decanal," he whispered, his voice carrying a sense of urgency.
"Only then will the answers you seek be revealed."
"Decanal," Diana repeated the name, committing it to memory. It was a cryptic task, but she knew it held the key to unraveling the mysteries of her past. As the dream faded and reality seeped back in, Diana awoke to find herself in the hospital room once more. Her heart was heavy with both longing and determination. The mysterious man had left her with a mission, and she was determined to see it through. She opened her eyes again and she was back in the room again.
To her surprise, Howard, the man she had been told was her betrothed, sat by her bedside. Howard is a strikingly handsome man with a rugged charm and a warm presence. His features are strong, characterized by a chiseled jawline and expressive hazel eyes that radiate kindness. While not as ethereally beautiful as the mysterious man in her dreams his genuine smile and reassuring demeanor make him immensely attractive in his own right.
His eyes were filled with concern, and his presence offered a bland kind of feeling in contrast to the fuzzy feeling the mysterious man in her dreams always brings with him to the clearing.
"Diana, you're awake," Howard exclaimed, relief washing over his features. He reached out to take her hand, his touch warm and reassuring but there was something different.
“ I'm sorry I wasn't here when you woke up. I was on a mission” He said placing a kiss on her hand but she felt nothing from the interaction. He stared at her with a confusing look like he was hurt but he masked it.
Diana looked into his eyes, sensing the depth of his affection and concern. Her heart ached with the knowledge that she had once been close to this man, yet her memories remained locked away.
"I don't remember," she admitted, her voice filled with regret.
"But I want to."
Howard smiled gently, squeezing her hand. "We'll figure this out together, Diana," he said.
"No matter what, I'll be here for you”
As Diana pondered on his words she couldn't help but wonder about the mysterious man in her dreams and the task he had set before her. Who was Decanal, and what secrets did this entity hold?
The answers remained elusive, but Diana was determined to find them, with Howard by her side as a beacon of support and love. Days turned into weeks as Diana settled into her new reality. The hospital staff, led by the diligent and caring Dr. Ellis, did their best to assist her in recovering her lost memories. They conducted various tests, scans, and therapies, but progress was slow. Diana's past remained a locked door, and she had yet to find the key.
Howard was a constant presence by her side, his unwavering support a source of comfort. Despite her memory loss, their connection deepened with each passing day. His love for her was evident in every glance, every touch, and every reassuring word.
One afternoon, as Diana sat by her hospital window, gazing out at the world beyond, Howard joined her. He watched her with an expression of both concern and affection.
"Diana, you've been through so much," Howard began, his voice soft.
"I can't imagine how frustrating it must be not to remember your past."Diana nodded, a mixture of gratitude and frustration welling up inside her.
"I appreciate everything you've done for me, Howard. But there's this constant ache in my heart, a feeling that something important is missing."Howard reached for her hand, his touch gentle but it felt like all shades of wrong. She couldn't help the contrasting emotions tearing her apart from the insides. She hated the feeling that clawed at her like she was useless.
"We'll find the missing pieces together, Diana. No matter how long it takes." Howard sighed at his lies again, Finding the missing piece meant sending the love of his life back to the vampire king again and he would do anything to prevent that from happening again.
